This cat is fatter than my 22 lb'er
http://edition.cnn.com/2004/TECH/science/04/12/fat.cat.reut/index.html

I feel sorry for the beastie, who probobly REALLY misses it's owner.

I have 6 cats, all of whom are normal weight but one, Oliver - he was a BIG kitten, and is now a huge 4 year old cat. After 3 years and $1500+ in vets bills and tests, the vet has put him on Atkins (for real). He gets KD cat food, although he has no diabetes.

His lifetime of diets has made him my most affectionate cat....he is just desperate for food..he eats any bug that is slow enough for him to catch. He does the wierd Ka'ah'a sound to birds - perhaps hoping to woo them into his mouth. He is certainly too fat to catch one.

Like the cat in the article, he can't clean himself either, it is a rather disgusting thing, and involves me with diaper wipes 2-3 times a week.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to help my mega-feline?

1. Poor kitty
40+ pounds!..that's the size of a small child!

I don't know what to do about your cat..that's a tough situation..does it have thyroid problems? One of our dogs has thyroid problems and he's obese; he's fed medication for it, but it doesn't seem to help.

2. Ollie has had every expensive (and cheap) test known
the vet did some on-line research and decided to give Atkins a try.

4. this is Max, my lynx/siamese mix......
he is nearly 3 feet long from nose to tail and weighs in at 22 lbs. when his paws are extended, they measure nearly 2 inches across. he is also the most docile and loving cat i have ever owned...he has a great personality, very vocal, and loves to have his belly rubbed. one thing though, he is a BIG cat, not fat...big enough that when people who have never seen him enter my house, they are shocked at how large he is....

this is me holding him...i am 6-2 and husky...

a little fella' he aint....

5. aww,... what a nice-looking cat
I have a big boy, too. Not fat, just real big. And he loves his belly-rubs, too.

6. i have 2 new kittens
and we had to take the whole litter. all have found homes, except the giant of the litter. a huge long haired orange tabby. he now at 7+ months bigger than his half brother. my boy is going on 10lbs and his sis is maybe 7lbs and much smaller. so the names basil and sybil are perfect.
now if only they would make my fat cat do mor exercise.
