Christians won't do Christian duty
Alabama governor says voters have Christian duty to approve big tax increase

July 29, 2003 - Alabama's new governor is trying to persuade voters to approve the biggest tax increase in state history by telling them it is their Christian duty.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) _ And for a state in the Bible Belt, that might seem like a winning strategy.
Instead, Republican Gov. Bob Riley's $1.2 billion tax package is alienating even the Christian Coalition and other supporters, who see Riley as a Judas. Riley had consistently opposed new taxes while in Congress.

Ah, people? Hello? He was in CONGRESS. See...FEDERAL TAXES go to run the federal government. STATE TAXES are what we have to run the state budget. Maroons.

Alabama's threshold for paying state taxes is the lowest in the
nation at just $4,600 for a family of four
and has been remain
unchanged since 1982.
Riley, a Southern Baptist, says Alabama has taxed its poorest
too harshly for too long.

``According to our Christian ethics, we're supposed to love God, love each other and help take care of the poor,'' he said. ``It is immoral to charge somebody making $5,000 an income tax.''

I sweartogod, we got some damn UN-Christian Christians.
I guess we got our own brand of Christianity down here.
It's the kind that would be totally unrecognizable by Christ.
jeez

3. Jesus doesn't have much in common with conservatism
People who imagine that Jesus of Nazareth is, was, or ever would be a "Conservative", need to take another hard look at the gospels, which portray Jesus as one of the most Liberal religious leaders who ever lived. Jesus was a preacher who, in three short years, so infuriated the conservative leaders of his day, ( because he constantly exposed their misuse of their religious and political authority over the people ), that they had him killed to prevent the people from hearing the very liberal teaching that you will see quoted in his own words on this web site !

Far from representing the teaching of Jesus of Nazareth, today's "Religious Right" is the reincarnation of the very same kind of clerics who fought with Jesus from the day he opened his mouth in public until the day they had him nailed to cross.

For 30 pieces of silver. Not much different than the right wing so-called christians.

Edit: In 2nd Timothy he states that "The love of money is the root of all evil". How true that is.
