1. the RNC is hosting it
I think it's brilliant. Of course, the republicans, who can't handle a bit of sarcastic but accurate truth, are going ballistic.

4. MoveOn should have kept it on.
They should have just told the Repubs where to go and just keep it on. Let's stop whimping out! It's time to take the gloves off! The similarities are there!

8. I'm with you 1000%. Why did they bend? I'm very disappointed
Very disappointed in moveon.org for apologizing for this.

It's free speech.

Where's my goddamn free speech I'm entitled to in this country?

I want it back.

Don't download it.

Not different from trying to associate Dean with Osama BL... It's not gonna stick with any of the people who like Bush, even vaguely...

35. Hahaha! Let's spread the word!
I just downloaded it from the RNC site. Aside from chuckling over the huuuuge bandwidth drain this flap is causing them - what if we spread the link?

I mean, what irony if the RNC flap turns against itself, making that silly movie more popular than it ever could have been!

So, is there a site where I can upload it to*?

*Not serious about uploading... But the mental image of bunches of new replica sites popped up... Hehe

Will they give this comparison some very long legs? I think so! Let's all help make it so.

Funny how all the "Hitlery" comments never became a scandal. Nor did the "feminazi" talk cause a stir.

I think the Bush/Hitler comparison strikes a nerve.

9. I don't have audio on my computer
but this Australian article gives a pretty good overview:
http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5744,8331269%255E1702,00.html

If your question is about directly translating Hitler's words (which I assume are in German) in the commercial, I dunno.

Edited on Tue Jan-06-04 06:20 AM by kcwayne
Is really just this monster of a sentence (I'm not 100% sure about some words, but the other possible words weren't making sense either):

"Die Zukunft des deutschen Volkes, wenn wir selbst, dieses deutsche Volk, eine Vorführung (?) zu eigener Arbeit, zu eigenem Fleisch, eigene Entschlossenheit, eigenem Trotz, eigenen Beharrlichkeit, dann werden wir wieder emporsteigen, genau wie die Väter einst auch, die Deutschland nicht geschenkt erhielten, sondern selbigst schaffen mussten."

In English:
"The future of the German folk, if we ouselves, this German folk, a presentation at own work, at own flesh, at determination, own spite, own insistence, then we will rise again, as our fathers, who didn't get Germany given, but had to make it themselves ." (the last few were words in Austrian)

14. Well, the issues joe sixpack will have are tied up in the Holocaust
People don't recognize that Bush and Hitler are using similar tricks to get the country in line, they just think "Bush didn't kill millions of Jews" and discount the whole thing without thinking any more about it.

It's effective for people who think about this sort of thing, but superficial folks will jsut get soundly turned off by it.

16. I see your point but disagree ...
> "Bush didn't kill millions of Jews"

Like they'd care if he did?

Like they care about the thousands of "foreign funny-coloured people"
that Bush HAS killed?

Like they care about the hundreds of AMERICANS that Bush HAS killed?

Whilst I suspect that the MoveOn crowd acted for the same reasons that
you stated, I think you are being generous to the opposition ... they
really don't give a shit about *anyone* but themselves and even if
there was a news channel in the USA that said "Bush has killed five
million <XYZ>s" their response would be "I guess they deserved it".

19. The ad did not make the finals
and the flapping of the "outrage" is being heard around the world! ROTFLOL!!!! The ad itself is MUCH too highbrow to be effective. It wasn't until Kellanved so kindly translated the audio (I speak German daily and couldn't understand it) and I simultaneously read the subtitles that the intent really hit me! It's all about MINDLESS EMOTIONAL BLATHER and hits the nail on the head. But as a 30 second spot it fails miserably.

What's frustrating and sad is the forces propping up this *dimwit dauphin have the power, money, technology and monstrous intent to make the atrocities of the Third Reich look like a fraternity hazing. And THEY'VE just barely gotten started. There are none so blind as those who refuse to see...

17. Perhaps MoveOn should apologize...
When Gillespie admonishes Saxby Chambliss for the ad in which Max Cleland's face came after those of Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden. As I recall, back then Ol' Ed didn't have the hissy fit he is having now. Even Zell Miller feigned outrage over that little gem of attack ad hyperbole.

20. Chambliss didn't go into the service because of a 'bad knee'...
perhaps he injured it trying to get his foot out of his mouth.

The attacks against Max were completely unfounded, and Chambliss' miraculous healing of his knee after the final Americans were gone from Nam speak volumes.

Like all the other GOP 'fakeriots', these bastards need to sit down and shut up. Hypocrisy is still immoral, even to the GOP. :grr:

37. Yes they should apologize...
apologize the fact that the Repugs are such the extremists that they inspire people to compare them to the Nazis. I am serious. These guys in control of the GOP are not your old man's Republican Party. they aren't even Nixon's Republican Party. At least Nixon had some savvy and an understanding about foreign affairs. Shrub doesn't nor does he really care about what the rest of the world thinks.

You think I'm slinking away, HA! I'm proud of my vote
and I'm greatful that the moveon voters agreed with me .

While there are similarities between the two , there
are just as many differences .

Americans need to see the policies of bush and how
they affect Americans personally .

Focuss on the Constitution is very important
that's why this ad was my favorite .

He Can't Do That
