Dumb question: What is Google bombing? How do you do it?
Edited on Mon Jan-05-04 08:11 PM by Jim Sagle
I understand the goal - to associate someone's name (say George W. Bush) with a key phrase (say, "misleader") so that if you Google "misleader", George W. Bush pops up as the answer. But what ACTIONS does one take to bring this about?

1. Well, you

Well, you just link to the site you want to like this: miserable failure.

Google bases relevance to search term by amount of times something is linked to on the web with that term.

If dozens or hundreds of people do it, Google assumes GWB's bio is the best miserable failure source out there!

4. The thing that confuses me
...is that it shouldn't be enough just to have a whole bunch of people on a single discussion board put links in their posts. I mean, don't you need to have links from multiple domains? If all I have to do in order to boost the ratings of a site is cut-n-paste 10,000 copies of a link to that domain into a page on my site, the Google rating system would collapse in a week.

7. well,
Google is smart, and doesn't count 10,000 links on one page.

It will, however, count 10,000 pages in one domain linking to a site.

Just not quite as much as 10,000 domains...

but mostly because those pages won't be accessed frequently (if at all.)

8. It's probably just me DrBB
but those Mousalini pictures at the bottom I can see a bit of William Kristol in 1st and 5th from the left. It could be the wide mouth.

5. Question
So if you want your website to get in googles search database, if you post links to your site in message boards around the web, will that get you in?

6. It's not just # of links
Google also weighs how highly rated the linking sites are. So if I get 20 visits a year to my site and I link to yours, it won't do as much good for you as it would if I got 1,000,000.
