They want to protect the sanctity marriage from ME?
But some idoit stick figure pop star can get married and unmarried in the same freakin' DAY because she's straight?

SOURCE: BRITNEY TO ANULL VEGAS WEDDING

AP) - Pop star Britney Spears married a childhood friend from Louisiana in an early morning ceremony, but quickly arranged to have it annulled, people close to the entertainer said Sunday. The 22-year-old Spears and Jason Allen Alexander of Kentwood, La., "took a joke too far by getting married" Saturday, her record label, Jive Records, said in a statement released to "Entertainment Tonight." "Ms. Spears and Mr. Alexander have filed for an annulment which will become official on Monday," read the statement by Sonia Muckle, Jive's vice president of publicity.

SNIP

The bride wore a baseball cap and torn jeans down the aisle and was escorted by a Palms limousine driver, the source told the AP.

Maloof denied rumors that Spears was drunk and had to be carried out of the Rain nightclub inside the Palms on New Year's Eve.

2. Ah! The moralists at work yet again.
My partner and I will have been together four years this march. Through that time, we have spent the most of it apart. Why? Because these so called "moralists" and trying to protect the sanctity of so called marriage. What sanctity I ask myself, the divorce rate is above 50% in the United States alone. Does anyone listen to me? Nopers. I am just some crack pot Aussie who is a queer and out to destroy the little kiddies of the world by recruiting them to my lifestyle.

Well let me tell all these so called moralists. You might keep my partner and I apart by not allowing same sex immigration or marraige, but you won't break us! We will be together one day, because my country is on higher moral ground than you, and does allow same sex immigration.

3. Thank God you have Fred Phelps defending marriage!
Edited on Mon Jan-05-04 12:22 AM by Cannikin
he says "Same sex marriage is the ultimate, smash-mouth, in-your-face insult to God, as it desecrates the holy metaphor of Christ and His Bride the Church."

7. You might want to read the Constitution..
Who is protected? "All persons born and naturalized.."

Not: "all straight persons.."
Not: "all persons - except for the homos.."

---

The guarantee? ".. equal protection of the law."

Not: ".. equal protection of the law - except for civil marriage law."

---

If you don't like it, you can always seek to amend it.

8. I'm assuming you understood that the quote
Edited on Mon Jan-05-04 03:39 AM by Rowdyboy
"same sex marriage should be for heterosexuals" was Schwartzeneggers, not mine, and was absurd.

Actually, I'm a gay man in a long term committed relationship so I'd love "equal protection"

6. And me.
Maybe we should protect it from heterosexuals. They're the ones making a mockery of it. They have no high moral ground from which to judge..

13. this story destroys the whole sanctity of marriage thing
Margaret Cho had a great line a while ago, she said, straights can get married by an Elvis impersonator, gays should be able to do that too.

17. I had the same thought...
when I read about that farce of a wedding. There is a young man who is like a son to me, who has been in a loving and stable relationship for quite a few years with his partner.

They own a home together, they have a marriage in every sense except for being able to have it formalized. They are an asset to any community, and to the U.S.

To say that their ability to marry would threaten the sancity of marriage is ridiculous. They bring so much that is positive to the human race, and it really infuriates me when the right-wing nutjobs act as though their relationship is a sin.

The sin is to deny full rights to every person; the sin is to deny people who love each other the ability to have their relationship recognized.
