DLC Demonstrates Lack of Principles or Ideas. An Empty Centrist Shell.

Poll Finds Democrats Lack Crucial Support to Beat Bush
Party Must Strongly Reposition Itself to Regain White Male Voters' Support, DLC Advised

By Dan Balz
Washington Post Staff Writer
Tuesday, July 29, 2003; Page A03

"If Democrats can't close the security gap, then they can't be competitive in the next election," said Penn, who polled for Clinton in his second term and who is the pollster for the presidential campaign of Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman (Conn.).

The poll showed Bush's vulnerabilities. Fewer than half of those surveyed (48 percent) think he deserves to be reelected and 53 percent said the economy is heading in the wrong direction.

But Penn said Democrats must make a concerted effort to appeal to white voters, particularly men and married women, to make the 2004 race competitive. He said just 22 percent of white men identified with the Democratic Party in his poll, and he said younger men are even more strongly Republican in their leanings.

So what the DLC wants to do is attract these young white male Republicans by mouthing "security, security, security..."? They don't want to say anything that might shake up these allegedly security-conscious white males and married women to make them think their desire for Bushist security is wrong-headed? (I also think that the question of security is extremely volatile, and depends on how attacked people personally feel. This is not the kind of issue that gels into a permanent concern, least of all considering that the demographic the DLC is so concerned about is shrinking over all.)

10. The DLC is trying win elections for Democrats?
They seem to be spending most of their time tearing Democrats down, building Bushism up and bragging about how they've worked so hard at fooling everyone into believing Democrats aren't leftists.

14. I honestly don't doubt their intentions regarding winning
I doubt their strategy, and their intentions overall, after all, what is gained by publicly chastising large groups of their voting base. We can quibble over percentages, it's still a large group of people who do make a difference.

And could somebody PLEASE TELL ME why should ANY of those folks buying into the screams of "Security, Security, Security" from the media and the RNC vote for people going me too me too after GW and his security policies. They need to see some leadership demonstrated. Graham might help, I'll keep an eye on him, and Clark...talk to me when he announces, thanks.

Thats all I got to say on the DLC issue.

2. As a white male myself...
I'm amazed at the job the Republican Party has done of convincing middle and lower-class white males that they are the party that serves their interests.

I think this is where someone like Bob Graham can make a difference. He's been involved with the security issues and has seen first hand how inadequate this administration's efforts have been. I think some white males will be responsive to the idea that Bush has been coddling the Saudis with the 9/11 investigation and all.

I like Graham more and more each day as a pick for the VP spot.

17. The DLC knows how to fundraise from granting favors to big corporations
Big corporations want regulations that protect the environment, consumers and their smaller competitors watered down or revoked. The DLC helps do this for campaign funds.

This is their version of moderation. It's they aren't taking the moderate voters' position, they are moderating between what the voters want and what their big buisness contributors want.

12. Here's my submission...
(Hmmmm, duplicate posts)

Just sent the following to LiveOnline:

"I'm a white male, a 58 year old veteran, a liberal, and thought I was a Democrat. Evidently you and the DLC want to purge liberals like me from the Democratic Party. So you've begun to bad-mouth us and marginalize us. That's brilliant. So rather than work with us, you would rather purge us and lose again rather than work with us and possibly win in 2004. Why am I not surprised?"

Edited on Tue Jul-29-03 12:54 PM by BurtWorm
but he's typing like a logorrheic turtle. I don't expect any to be answered. I want to know what specific policies he has in mind for the Democrats other than mouthing the phrase "national security" and ignoring the bone-headedness of the Bushist approach to the war in Iraq.

9. The dumbing of America brought to you by Corporate Media
The corporate world has done its utmost to make human society over in its own image. Competition. No loyalty. No mercy. Survival of the fittest. Be #1. Just do it. These are not values that build strong societies. In fact these values fragment society and isolate us leaving us easy prey for corporate predators.

Take the latest spate of reality shows. They have nothing to do with reality. Shows like Survivor create an artificial enviroment where people are made to behave like corporations battling it out amongst each other. In the end their can only be one. If this was a model for human society we would have been extinct a long time ago. Yet this is what it is sold as. We are taught by the corporations that we are nasty creatures ready to stab each other in the back for the slightest gain.

We have been taught to reject helping our fellow human and instead insist they make themself a better cog in the machine. We are being turned into interchangable parts in the corporate conglomerate. Disposable and expendable. The end goal of a Corporation is an addicted public and the lowest possible production costs eliminating people where possible.
