Here's proof of the existence of Canadian freepers
Edited on Mon Jan-05-04 04:53 PM by Skinner
Just as bad as American ones. This guy, Paul Jackson, is always spouting sad crap like this. Sorry for posting the whole thing, but the Sun doesn't seem to have archived stuff, and if I just post the link, it's liable to be gone tomorrow. Well, here's the link anyway, he's always good for a chuckle.

http://www.canoe.ca/Columnists/jackson.html

You should also know that Calgary is one of the only places in Canada where this drivel can be published without the author being laughed out of town. Notice especially his keen grip on history's subtleties.

Four-square for George
U.S. prez enjoyed terrific year indeed
By PAUL JACKSON -- Calgary Sun

A shroud of critics gather over my head as the New Year opens and ask why I stand up for President George W. Bush.

Truth to tell, I don't. He doesn't need me to stand up for him.

But I stand right behind him in his war against international terrorism and tyranny.

And who can deny 2003 wasn't a top-notch year for Bush?

Bush, a history buff who has learned the lessons of the past, is a much-maligned man.

He knows the mighty Roman Empire wasn't destroyed by a superior civilization. But by nomadic German Tribes. Men in caves. Sound familiar?

Yet the American Lib-Left -- and the shameless anti-Americans in Europe -- have to try and demean Bush and his administration as it fights for sanity in the world.

One way to destroy a society is to fill its people with doubts about their place in the world. Then get them to disparage and denigrate their own values.

1. yuck
this guy is trying to relive a bad nightmare
This statement jumped out;"You can bet it would have been far, far different if Brian Mulroney were still prime minister. "

Hmm, I recall that we basically rid the country of the Progressive Conservatives because... Brian Mulroney was Prime Minister. Just another right wing nut....Here's hoping we can get rid of most of them after the next election. People like this are living in the past, we Canadians no longer need to define ourselves through the American vision...we are Canadian, and confident in being who we are.
Canada has grown up.

6. I still feel sorry for Kim Campbell
I think she was a smart and reasonably adept politician, and it sickens me the way Mulroney threw her to the wolves in the election, then blamed her for the destruction of the PCs. What a complete jerk.

12. Folks, please don't visit freedominion, we're trying to close them down
through lack of traffic. They're constantly on the verge of going under, so don't give them any hits, it's really not worth it. They have nothing to say.

5. Sadly
Freepers in Canada are more like a sideshow, not to be taken seriously.

In America, they dominate the political landscape.

9. Also in Calgary Herald Jan 1st...
A story about the "charmed lives" that George Bush and ?Ralph Klein lead. Yecch! The author, Shelley Youngblut, sounds pretty supportive of Shrub. What can you expect? Calgary is in "Conservative Country."

If it weren't for the mountains and dry climate...I'd be moving somewhere more liberal.

22. Pretty safe bet that Catherine Ford didn't write that one
Southam papers are sharing editorials now, so this may not even be from Calgary. It actually sounds like something that the nut in Edmonton, Lorne Gunter, would come up with.

14. Trying to muddy the waters
to cover the undeniable fact that Hitler was a RIGHT-WING extremist.

http://www.huppi.com/kangaroo/L-hitler.htm
Myth: Hitler was a leftist.

Fact: Nearly all of Hitler's beliefs placed him on the far right.

Summary

Many conservatives accuse Hitler of being a leftist, on the grounds that his party was named "National Socialist." But socialism requires worker ownership and control of the means of production. In Nazi Germany, private capitalist individuals owned the means of production, and they in turn were frequently controlled by the Nazi party and state. True socialism does not advocate such economic dictatorship -- it can only be democratic. Hitler's other political beliefs place him almost always on the far right. He advocated racism over racial tolerance, eugenics over freedom of reproduction, merit over equality, competition over cooperation, power politics and militarism over pacifism, dictatorship over democracy, capitalism over Marxism, realism over idealism, nationalism over internationalism, exclusiveness over inclusiveness, common sense over theory or science, pragmatism over principle, and even held friendly relations with the Church, even though he was an atheist.

30. Paul Jackson is a wacko, anti-Canadian ignoramous.
Thankfully, the Sun is not TOTALLY inundated with individuals of his type. I can still rely on Eric Margolis, an excellent columnist who speaks "the truth". I'm amazed that he's still on the rightwing Sun's payroll.
