What are you doing to make a difference?
I'm new to this web site. I see a lot of good posts, but what are you doing to make a difference.

I have been writing the media (CNN, MSNBC, New York Times) to let them know I support stories that are important. I let them know they are wasting time on Laci Peterson and that they need to show more about the 9/11 investigation.

I question them on multiple stores on something Dean said, but no coverage on Bush cutting Ventrans benefits.

If we all wrote our local media and our reps in government it would make a difference.

How do you think the conservative got all the power. For 10 plus years they have been writing, faxing, calling the media and congress and that's why we have all this conservative media (Rush, Hannity)

Let's take the info we get from the underground/foreign media and ask the US media why they are not reporting it.

One letter from me will be ignored, but hundreds or thousands of letters will make a difference.

We can keep others up to date on results. Let's get organized like the right did.

1. Donating, writing letters, campaign work in 2002...
Will redouble efforts next year.

If our beautiful Republic is destined to be ground beneath the heel of the Imperial Family, let us all resolve to at least be able to say that we didn't stand idly by while it was done.

There will be PLENTY of Imperial Subjects who can shuffle their feet and hem and haw about that question, should it be put to them.

Not me.

2. Welcome to DU, pnziii!
I make a difference by being active in the National Women's Political Caucus and being a member of my city's Democratic Club.

NWPC is a national, multi-partisan, grassroots organization dedicated solely to getting pro-choice women elected and appointed at all levels of government, local, state and national.

"When Women Run, Women Win."

Actually, the right didn't get to power by years of letter-writing campaigns; they already had power throught think-tanks like the Heritage Foundation and the Federalist Society. The letter-writing galvanizes the masses, however.

3. Great topic!
I wish more people would become ACTIVELY involved in waking up the Sheeple about what's REALLY going on in our government. For my part, I wrote a lengthy (20 pages) piece called "The Stealth Coup" that documents the neocon's takeover of our Administration and country. It includes tidbits on BBV, Cheney's energy task force, 911 MIHOP, shadow intelligence agencies, U.S. use of WMD's, policy sleight-of-hand maneuverings, psychological brainwashing of the general public and the characteristics of fascism (and we're experiencing ALL of them!) It connects all the dots and dirty dealings of BushCo for those who are unwilling or unable to put the pieces together for themselves.

I've distributed it to news media around the world, members of Congress, discussion groups and just about everybody I come in contact with. I also leave it lying around book stores, copy shops, libraries and train stations, to name just a few random locations. I'm very passionate about spreading the word far and wide.

4. Great topic. Here's my list:
- I'm running for local office
- I will donate to my candidate's campaign once I pick a candidate
- I will volunteer to work for my candidate's campaign once I pick a candidate
- letter-writing (media, my congressman, etc.)
- keep abreast of the news, keep learning, keep asking questions
- tell others!

Great thread. :) :toast:

5. Man, I cannot BELIEVE this thread got so few responses.
I know there are DUers who are doing much to oppose the Bushevik Imperium.

Stand up and be counted!

God, a Michael Jackson thread generates more responses that this excellent thread! And a Counterproductive Candidate Flame-Fest Gets literaly 30 times the responses.

Sad.

6. Do you think it's an indication.....
that there's more bluster than substance? (nudge, nudge, nudge.....I just KNOW there are folks out there busting their humps to DO SOMETHING about evicting the Chimpmeister......sharing your deeds may help inspire others to rise to the challenge....nudge, nudge, nudge.....)

7. I write letters
send emails, faxes, and make phone calls.

I'm active in my county Democratic party organization, and I'm running for state office in 2004. (I ran in 2002, also) I'm also a volunteer for the Dean campaign.

I write a weekly editorial column for our local conservative daily paper.

I work as a community organizer - so I'm working on a few different issues right now in my area: health care, homelessness/housing, and voter registration, education, and mobilization. There's a group fighting the construction of a private automobile racetrack - and I'm working with them, also.

I also work with convicted DUI offenders.

I do what I can.

13. hi LunaC
I've found ways to make a living while working on the causes that matter to me. I've been blessed.

I have a heck of a past - but running for state office isn't such a big deal. If I were going national, I'd have some worries.

Yikes :scared:

9. Welcome to DU, but actually Laci Peterson
is passe. Now it's Michael Jackson all the time. I write to those "librul" media guys all the time, but it's corporate TV, owned by right wing interests, so all they are interested in is being Bush's propaganda machine. I tell them I don't watch them anymore other than one or two shows on CNN. Maybe if everyone did the same, it could start making a difference.

10. Campaigning...
not for any presidential candidate at the moment, but I will probably campaign for the nominee.

But I'm also campaigning now for Jack Flynn, who is running for Congress in NC-9. I'm hoping to canvass for him in the summer.

And I'm vice-president of my high school Democratic club, which is unfortunately slumbering at the moment, but it will be getting into gear soon.

16. Jack Flynn
Jack Flynn is great. I have meet him several times and I think he will make a great replacement for Sue Myrick. Plus, his campaign slogans are pretty good: "Do you know Jack?"

But I don't think my covering local charity donations, hockey games, car accident, and council meetings in a small Canadian town will help your cause at all. Welcome to DU! Keep up the good work!

12. Welcome, and thanks for a good New Year's Resolution....
I volunteer for, and contribute to, a Democratic candidate; I write and call media; I write and call Senators and Reps. Let's resolve to redouble our efforts in 2004 -- and hope for a better world in the coming year --

14. Inform that foreign media
What i'z done.

I was on live UK nationwide radio (5 live) prior to bush's arrival at belfast with the undersecreteary for defense some such scumbag from bush 1 admin... and had a public fight that i won by him being an ass... i'z done my part to shift public opinion in britain against bushiiite america.

Besides that, i ain't done much except write here and on pravda.

Sorry i'm such a lazy ass... but i'll vote kucinich... so at least ya get a vote from moi.

Beyond that, i've converted some folks at the local pub against bush, but given that most of scotland hates the bastard already, its not too hard... and they arn't voting.

I'll write more... you're right... letters work... but in my opinion, the foreign press is the right place to write.... the americna press is lost and inherits all its news from the real foreign sources already... so why not speak directly to the real press.

15. Doing what I can ---
-writing (as in writing my own work and submitting it to be published)
-letter writing
-demonstrated last year ('03)
-financially contribute to organizations I believe in
-will financially contribute to the campaign
-seeking employment in an organization I believe in
-actively engage in persuasive discussion with peers*
-attending several local organizational rallies, including Idaho peace coalition, the interfaith alliance of Idaho, and the Ada County Human Rights task force

*this is one that is often overlooked. I never pass up an opportunity to engage open-minded people in discussion. I try not to get into "arguments" with people who are unwilling to even consider another point of view, but I've had several good discussions with some traditionally conservative people and persuaded them to think about some issues in a different light - at least one of them is strongly considering voting democrat for the first time ever. I consider this important. :)

17. What I am doing
I am the only Green elected official in NC
I am active with Charlotte Coalition for a Moritorium Now (death penalty), Democracy Charlotte, Democracy North Carolina, Felon Re-enfranchment, League of Women Voters, NARAL, NOW, Clean Air Coalition, and other progressive groups here in North Carolina.

I think it is important to get out in the community and make sure your voice is heard. Sometimes it is hard to do, especially in a conservative state but I relish tweaking conservatives.

Plus, I flip off the Jesse Helms Center everytime I drive by it.

18. Spreading the word through...
Edited on Thu Jan-01-04 01:25 PM by Markaren
Deception dollars - www.deceptiondollar.com - which I conveniently leave behind at ATMs, stores, on the sidewalk, on cars with 'God Bless America" stickers and flags, etc. It may be the catalyst to wake up "ripe" folks, perplex the non-political, and infuriate the Bush-base! It has lots of good sites mentioned, such as www.onlinejournal.com - www.oilempire.us and www.globalfreepress.com
I've probably distributed about 400 by now, with 1,000 more to distribute over the coming months.

I also plan to write a series of short articles (LTTE) on the threat of fascism in America to the major NH papers starting in a week or so and running though October. And I will work hard for the Dem nominee, no matter who it is. Step ONE in reclaiming America is to get rid of Bush, there can be no further progress until that happens!

We can bear witness to this evil and corrupt administration. Opposition to Bush must be visible. Bumper stickers help too ;-)
