So, the US has blamed the Mad cow strain on Canada
Edited on Sat Dec-27-03 10:59 PM by HEyHEY
I knew that was coming, I really did. Now I was just lying in bed and heard it on the radio. But from the sound clips I heard no proof. I just heard them say it came from Canada. Anyone know if there is proof?

Some Canadian veterinary official said there's no definitive proof.
If there WAS proof, we'd probably never hear it from George Bush, Inc.

2. a reasonably compelling argument
Sunday's Washington Post runs a fairly well-sourced report on the Canadian link -- but they note the discrepancies as well.

They call it a "breakthrough" -- a term we changed to "discovery" when we put it in our Sunday paper.

4. Conservatives in this administration
spend most of their time devising ways to blame others for their mistakes. The modern conservative refuses to take responsibility for his actions or inactions.

I also knew it was coming! I guess we're both just brilliant! I don't know if there's proof yet - they claim that the ear tag identified the cow as one from a Canadian group that came in. But the thing that hit me so hard about the announcement was that it sounded just like the administration's first reaction to our massive power grid failure, "It was the Canadians who started it!" Let's all point our fingers to the north.

Makes us look pretty foolish when the truth finally comes out.

edit: geez, I'm slow at typing - my 'reply to original' ends up being a rehash of the previous 10 people's thoughts!

6. I want us to close off all US beef imports
All of them, just to tell Bush to stick it. But they won't.

8. It is impossible that a cow from Canada would be afflicted with MCS
It just couldn't be.

10. My issue is not that we have a bunch of clean cows up here
It's that there is all this finger pointing already without a DNA test. Canada's breakout was only ONE cow. And that particular cow was slaughtered long before the syndrome was discovered.

I think it's just another BS US blame shift. If the DNA test shows it came from Canada, fine.

11. Problem with BSE agent and proof of origin
There is no DNA. BSE agent is a weird protein named a prion. DNA is a differently shaped protein (and much larger). A prion is an exceedingly strange protein that probably is not what most people would call alive. A cold virus is some orders of magnitude larger. There may be a test for different strains, but I am not sure.

12. Perhaps I'm confused
but I'm sure that Canada wants a DNA test to confirm the identity of the cow, which is very much in dispute. The ear tag# and age of the cow according to our records, do not match the age of the cow with BSE and US records. Although, I'm sure that the Bush* admin. never lies....but we'll watch our backs just in case, eh!

9. When CNN kept showing the map of Washington with Canada prominently
displayed above it, I knew they were setting this up too. Ordinarily when the USA map is displayed, they completely ignore Canada, as if it's not even there...It's possible Canada is responsible but it's just as possible Canada is not responsible....Nothing of this type of report should have been announced to the world unless the U.S.A. government had proof....This could turn out to be like the blackout in the summer when the mayor of New York and Governor Pataki immediately announced it was Canada's fault.....Later it was proven to have been caused in Ohio.....

13. The last I heard was the poor cow was a Holstein dairy
cow that was taken down to northern Idaho as part of a herd, which seems a little strange to me because I used to live in northern Idaho, the panhandle, and I don't remember ever seeing a lot of cows there because it's really forested and not the kind of range for cows. I never saw a Holstein. In the market most of our milk and butter came from Washington, which had the range cows would be raised in. This is only my personal observation.
