Bush Starts Vacation on Upswing -- (EXAMPLE of skewed journalism)
The story below was written by Cox News reporter Bob Deans -- who last year was president of the White House Correspondents Association.

Tucked in with the news of Bush's two week vacation are interpretations and analyses. Not news.

Can you find the subjective words?

WASHINGTON - President Bush leaves the White House on Monday to spend Christmas with his family at Camp David, beginning a two-week holiday and winding up a difficult year with what may be the best month of his term.

The past four weeks have brought the capture of Saddam Hussein, news of the strongest economic growth in 20 years, the beginning of prescription drug coverage for millions of Medicare beneficiaries and the end, it seems, to decades of efforts by Libya to build nuclear, chemical and biological arms.

If Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi makes good on his pledge Friday to surrender his weapons of mass destruction and allow international inspections, it would mark a victory in what Bush has defined as the central mission of his presidency: to reduce the threat that the sort of terrorists who carried out the Sept. 11 attacks against this country might somehow get their hands on the world's most dangerous weapons.

"It's a clear achievement on both the diplomatic and the security fronts," said Robert Lieber, professor of government and foreign service at Georgetown University in Washington. "This vindicates the general lines of grand strategy of the administration."

The U.S.-led overthrow of governments in Afghanistan and Iraq have sent a message to other states as well about the seriousness Bush attaches to his mission.

1. another snip
The president's Democratic opponents may be feeling the same way, after what presidential scholar Alan Lichtman called "the week from heaven" for Bush.

He greeted Americans on Dec. 14 with news of Saddam's capture, held a year-end news conference the next day to revel in the news and closed out the week with the announcement Friday that Libya had thrown up its hands in the face of concerted U.S. and British diplomacy and pressure.

It was just one month ago, moreover, that the government reported that the economy grew at a blistering 8.2 percent rate during the third quarter. Just two weeks ago Bush signed legislation providing long-promised drug benefits to the nation's senior citizens.

Suddenly, said Lichtman, the argument Bush's critics have put forth that he's a middling and accidental president out of his depth seemed to give way to fresh evidence of competent leadership, a sentiment reflected in the latest CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll, which showed Bush's approval rating at 63 percent, up 13 points from the 50-percent rating he registered just four weeks before.

7. Terror level is a damn joke...
Not to mention that Bush probably has so little to do with the day to day operations that it's okay for him to go wherever he wants. I have a feeling that all of his staff stays in washington and that he leaves Dick Chenney or Andy Card in charge.

5. Hrmmm...
Economy growing in this sense = stock market growing, still doesn't mean millions of Americans get their jobs back. And okay so the leader of Libya disarmed, I'm very happy that Bush's making an example out of Iraq and Afghanistan got another country to disarm. But what about all of those other nations on the "axis of evil" that you claim to have the ability to use WMDs on us any minute now...
