In a performance worthy of a fallen "televangelist" John Rowland, who has admitted accepting favours and gifts from powerful businessmen, defended his position by saying the Almighty had called to him "loud and clear" in his "adversity".

Mr Rowland, a Republican who faces a federal inquiry into the awarding of lucrative state contracts, spoke flanked by local soldiers recently returned from Iraq.

If the 'late' JC hisself came down from on high in a chariot of fire during the Superbowl a nat'l TV and said 'Vote for (insert name of Democrat here)', the Republicans and thier Religious Reich allies would claim it was a trick of Satan, thereby proving that we should vote for Bush.
If JC then showed up in Washington DC, walked the Potomic River, and said 'I'm not a trick, I'm telling you not to vote for Bush!' they would say "See how desperate Satan is! Vote for Bush!"
If JC then showed up during a Bush press conference, struck Bush dead with a lightning bolt, and said "I told you to vote Democratic! There, now you can't vote for Bush!" They'd crucify him and say 'See, Satan doesn't want Republicans to win, vote for Jeb Bush for President!'
