Isn't it illegal to lie to Congress even if you're not formally under oath?

Bush's State of the Union Address was one long string of lies, presented to a joint session of Congress.

Now various Senators and Reps are saying Bush told Congress that Iraq could hit the East Coast.

These are such blatant lies, it seems that they should be the basis of legal proceedings against Bush.

Anyone know?

2. No oral sex...
...no impeachment.

It's in the Constitution.

Kelly Ann Conway and Ann Coulter told me so.

Now get out there and shop like a good American.

The President wants you to.

FL Senator Bill Nelson: Bush said Iraqi WMD missles could hit the US
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=933914

U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson said Monday the Bush administration last year told him and other senators that Iraq not only had weapons of mass destruction, but they had the means to deliver them to East Coast cities.

Nelson, D-Tallahassee, said about 75 senators got that news during a classified briefing before last October's congressional vote authorizing the use of force to remove Saddam Hussein from power. Nelson voted in favor of using military force.

Senators were told Iraqi weapons could hit U.S.
Nelson said claim made during classified briefing
By John McCarthy
FLORIDA TODAY

Nelson said he couldn't reveal who in the administration gave the briefing.

The White House directed questions about the matter to the Department of Defense. Defense officials had no comment on Nelson's claim.

Nelson said the senators were told Iraq had both biological and chemical weapons, notably anthrax, and it could deliver them to cities along the Eastern seaboard via unmanned aerial vehicles, commonly known as drones.

5. I don't want to sound overly jaded, but
I think the answer is no. In fact, I believe that members of Congress have a Constitutional immunity for anything that they say on the floor. I think that the reason that they often require an oath from witnesses is because it is a prerequisite to any prosecution. ;-)

9. members of congress can lie, but what about nonmembers?
like Bush?

And I understand that as long as both Houses are controlled by the Republicans, it is unlikely to go anywhere. But still...

8. In all seriousness...
He's gonna claim it's what US intelligence was telling him. Even Gephardt said he went to the CIA and talked to people he trusted and they told him the same thing. Remember?!? That's why he voted the way he did. Besides, I'm not seeing any Congressmen making a big push for impeachment. I think it's just a pipe dream amoung many.
