Iran wants Saddam tried for atrocities during Iran Iraq War
This, according to a wire story I just read at Salon.

http://www.salon.com/news/wire/2003/12/15/iran_saddam/index.html

It's common knowledge that the US supported Iraq during this war. Iraq was the tool in our efforts to prevent the spread of regimes like Iran's. So will this trial happen? And if so, would the US not be accomplices?

1. If Saddam is tried for war crimes during the Iran-Iraq war...
...Rumsfeld, Reagan and Poppy Bush should most certainly be co-defendants...

2. I believe the legal term would be
Unindicted co conspiritors...

Put Saddam on trial for doing what we told him to do?
Look, Saddam's a bastard. His crimes are numerous. But we propped him up for years because he was our bastard. Putting him on trial for doing what we told him to do against Iran is pretty slimy.

3. That's exactly how I feel
I guess the followup question is whether or not the US would allow such a trial to take place. I mean, if Iran appealed to the international community, to the UN, and there's still animosity toward our alienation of half of Europe and everyone else, could we see the world taking the US down a notch?

5. bush would never allow Saddam to appear before a war crimes
tribunal. A swift trial and execution would serve bush's purposes.

Iran wants a war crimes tribunal, and I think they should.
