Breaking News! Boston Globe runs positive story on John Kerry
http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2003/12/16/working_the_fields/

CENTERVILLE, Iowa -- We interrupt the regularly scheduled Kerry-bashing for a ray of political hope.

<edit>

At the beginning of the year, the high-flying Kerry and his overrated cadre of advisers were telling reporters that he was a changed man, whatever that meant. He wasn't.

He ran a campaign based on biography and inevitability that boorishly lacked the hint of a broader message. By autumn, his poll numbers had fallen like a hot stone through cold soup. In Boston, the sounds were his fellow pols snickering, and in Washington the cliquish press corps seemed to delight in his collapse.

But here we are, five weeks until the first vote is cast, and something has really, finally changed. Maybe humility does that to a man. On the stump, he talks no longer about himself, but his ideas, repeatedly telling people, "This isn't about me, folks." His thoughts are presented not in calculated jargon, but in pointed prose.

18. Kerry is a Poor Campaigner. But he could the a GREAT PRESIDENT
Edited on Tue Dec-16-03 07:29 PM by WiseMen
Kerry really need help from Jesse Jackson, Teddy Kennedy, Jerry Brown
types who know how to get the pot boiling.

Kerry cannot change his aloof, "gazing into the distance" posture. That is who he is. It is fine for being President, but not for
winning the presidency in the modern primary system.

HE WILL NEED A LOT OF HELP.

2. Go Kerry!
"There's still a lot of politics left to be played in this campaign, and Kerry's playing it better than he ever has."

The fat lady has not sung!

15. "this isn't about me, folks"
where have I heard that before? :)

Seriously, I hope Kerry can hang for awhile; I do appreciate his rhetoric when he isn't slinging mud at Dean.

3. As a Kerry supporter
all I have to say is that if becomes the nominee, I will be STUNNED!!! I have faith in him, but there are just a lot of obstacles that he must overcome to achieve that posistion. I wish him luck and I will be with him every step of the way.

4. Kerry
I've always been impressed with the content of what he says, but his delivery is not always the best. Please don't bash me for saying that, just my observation that he comes across as very dry and stuffy on television and many viewers will tune out rather than hear the excellent content of his speeches.

6. Post 9-11 the general electorate may be more solemn about who they select
and that calm, serious delivery of solid solutions and vision may be exactly what they are attracted to.

In fact, if people had been more aware and understanding when Kerry's book came out in 1997 on The New War, dealing with terrorist networks and their funding and how to deal with it longterm, we may never have seen a 9-11 in this country. That would be a GREAT point to trump whatever BushInc. has to throw out there.

8. True
And, if Bush had heeded the warnings of the Hart-Rudman report and not poo-poo'd Clinton's obsession with terrorism and OBL in favor of Star Wars, we probably wouldn't have had 9/11, either...

Or, if Bush had heeded any of the other numerous warnings...

11. And Hart is on Kerry's team.
I trust them to take that case against Bush and ram it through in the general election.

13. He has some dry spells, yes.
I will admit, Kerry can be boring and long-winded at times. But I think, being as biased as I am, that Kerry's public speaking ability could grow on people.

10. This is definitely helping Kerry
Kerry really impresses in these settings, as was evident in the NY Times article this AM:

14. Wow. That IS news; the Boston Globe is otherwise so pro ....umm?
maybe Kerrys numbers might break out now. Time grows short.

My only question is can he become what he hasn't been thus far, an effective campaigner?
