"Prepare for President Dean" favorable article from right-wing rag...
...Sierra Times. The paper is FAR-RIGHT, but it shows that Dean may well have appeal to "guys with Confederate Flags on their Pickups" and old-style conservatives. For the record, I'm doing this as a nonaligned Dem (though I actually support Kerry) -- I see good things in all the candidates and am firmly behind the nominee, which Dean seems likely to be at the moment.

Here's the article: http://sierratimes.com/03/12/05/ar_carlworden.htm

"Unless Howard Dean screws up in some spectacular way, or unless Dean dies in another suspicious airplane accident, Howard Dean will be the next president of the United States. Mark my words.

Dean is the perfect candidate for election in 2004. George W. Bush has divided the Republican Party into two distinct groups. They comprise the phony and fascist Neo-Conservatives who mistakenly embraced the perpetually wrong philosophy that the ends justify the means, ala Clinton. To them, if Clinton could get away with it, why shouldn’t they? Their error has manifested itself via a disastrous war on Iraq that was never constitutionally declared by Congress, and the blatantly and irrefutably unconstitutional Patriot Act.

Both the moderate Democrats and the true American Christian conservatives have found themselves in surprising and stunning agreement on these issues...

A president who personally declares a United States citizen an enemy combatant, ineligible for legal counsel or to face his accusers and their evidence against him, even though he was arrested on U.S. soil and never carried a weapon against U.S. forces or their allies, is a domestic enemy of the people of the United States. True Christian conservatives understood that the moment he issued the order.

True Americans with solid constitutional convictions were outraged by that, and they immediately knew they had a problem in the White House. I don’t know what Howard Dean’s religious convictions, if any, hold to. But it doesn’t matter in this case. Here we have a pro-gun candidate who is against this disastrous war in Iraq, and he is a candidate intent on principle to uphold he personal convictions. I like him, and for the first time in my life, I will vote for a Democrat, Howard Dean, to be my next president next November.

If he’s still alive.

-- Carl F. Worden"

The article also says that he, a "true American conservative" like those who he says "once controlled the Republican Party" are outraged at Bush's actions (actually, I kind of doubt he speaks for ALL of them, but there's certainly a subgroup that is outraged) and that he and many of them have vowed NEVER TO VOTE FOR BUSH AGAIN.

It is a legitimate question whether we want supporters like this man -- someone who is quite conservative, and who represents a frightenlingly right-wing rag (page thru the site and they view the assault weapons ban as fascist). But I say, we can use whatever voters we can get to get Bush outta the WH.

1. There is a feeling
of betrayal among a good number of ever staunch Conservatives. This reminds me of Reagan Democrats.

2. It would be nice to see more posters support the good news about
all of our candidates. Let the RW corporate press focus on the bad news. I, too, support Kerry, but think anyone of them will be great representitives of the Party (well, most of them).

3. No real surprise to me.
The Bush/Neo-criminal junta transcends traditional party politics.

If Clinton, Carter, or Kennedy had promoted and implemented this unAmerican agenda; if they had allowed 9/11 to happen; if they invaded another country to steal oil under false pretenses....I'd be screaming for their impeachment and cashing in my membership in the Democratic Party too.

4. So we can post stuff from the RW if it is for Dean but not if it is
critical of Dean or talks about RW sending money to Dean we can't.

I wanna get this straight because there has been some confusion on this issue.

Mods can you help me out here on this? What's the policy? I'd like to know.

Thanks

5. The GD rule states - that if posting an article from a rw source, the
thread originator must add their own commentary which this person has done.

The admin has been pretty clear, and consistent on this point. It has nothing to do with the content.

I believe that it has to do with how the article is portrayed in the first thread - according to the rules (not hard to read - essentially that it is done in a non inflammatory way towards other DU posters, and that it contains personal commentary on the thread if it is posting a rw source.) If one is unclear what these rules are (upon with the moderators work) see: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=463744

Dr. Dean would welcome any votes and disgruntled

10. One in the hand is worth two from bush
Edited on Sat Dec-13-03 05:39 PM by BeFree
Taking away one vote from the pugs is as good as two votes.

Example: Say the vote was gonna be 50-50. Take one vote off * side and give it to us and it's now a 51-49 vote. A two vote margin. Any vote we can take from them is equal to two votes.

7. Whether you're a Dean supporter or not, this is nothing but good news
This guy and his website represent a portion of the Republican vote, and people with similar views will not be voting for Junior. I don't have as much faith as Mr Worden that most of them will follow his lead and vote for Dean, but all the same, if they vote for a rightist third party, it's still a vote against the Fraudministration. And a guy who lost the last election by over a half million votes can't afford to lose a solid chunk of his base. Nothing Junior does in the next year is going to convince this guy to vote for him. And I couldn't be happier about that :-)
