New Hampshire teachers union endorses Dean
CONCORD - The state’s largest teachers union announced Monday night its endorsement of a Democratic presidential hopeful Howard Dean.

The National Education Association of New Hampshire represents more than 14,000 teachers and support staff across the state. The group cites Dean’s opposition to the federal No Child Left Behind act, his work expanding health-care coverage to children while governor of Vermont and his having balanced 11 consecutive state budgets.

California’s NEA recently endorsed Dean.

1. OMG, do you realize how Rove is going to hit Dean with this?
The NEA? There's gotta be something negative to be said about this. I defer to the haterz. I couldn't think of anything witty.

4. People on both sides like to demonize teachers' unions
The thing is, teachers' unions are among the strongest and most aggressive in the country. This has a lot to do with the fact that you can't just replace them like you can factory workers, which frustrates the crap out of anti-union people, so they bring up stuff that can be presented as pitting teachers against the kids they teach, like opposition to proficiency testing, seniority vs. merit, tenure, etc.

3. They apparently didn't get the word...
He eats small children for breakfast.

He worked at Planned Parenthood.

The African American community hates him because he quotes MLK.

Al Gore endorsed him. (Bad thing.)

He talked back to his mom at the mansion in the Hamptons once. (And rumor has it that he leaves the toilet seat up....)

He's a draft dodger who hangs out in expensive bars in Aspen. (When not making small children do concrete work for him.)

He's short.

His neck is oversized.

Karl Rove wants him because he's got no support and can be beaten easily. (And the chimp is dying to debate him...)

8. this is antidemocratic!
How dare they endorse a candidate before any primary votes have been cast!

(I'm being sarcastic; the above is exactly what people were saying yesterday about Gore's endorsement of Dean, but so far no one is making the same complaint about the NEA endorsement)
