"Dean Can't Win" What a great prediction!
*The following relies on the hypothetical assumption that Dean wins the primary*

As a liberal, you can't make a more safe bet than Dean can't win.

If Dean doesn't win, you can claim that you were right all along, even if he loses for reasons other than you predicted. That'll feel GREAT for a couple of months, until the inauguration. Then you're right back in the same boat with everyone else.

If Dean wins, you get to be happily surprised, happily proven wrong. In the midst of the celebration, few will care about what you said or predicted in the beginning.

It's kind of a win win situation.

2. It's the tax plan.
The Club for Growth is already attacking Dean for proposing to raise taxes.

Most people vote their wallets.

Kucinich went from saying he would repeal the Bush tax-cuts to introducing the "Progressive Tax Act of 2003" which raises taxes on the rich while LOWERING taxes on the middle-class.

Unless Dean makes that same shift, he won't win.

3. If it isn't Kucinich, it doesn't matter who wins
Get out your flamethrowers: If Dean wins, don't expect things to be much different than they would be if bush wins.

If you want progressive politics, then you have to elect prgressive politicians.

4. It's also blindingly arrogant
It effectively gives the finger to the voters who support Dean; as if they are just too dumb to "get it."

You know who really can't win? Anybody who can't beat Dean first.

5. As long as you punch out the Democratic chad who gives a rats ass?
If Dean is the nominee I will vote for him and hope he wins. If Joe Leiberman is the nominee I will vote for him and hope he wins. What's your point? Are you saying Democrats won't vote for a Democrat just so they can be proven correct by agreeing to some phoney republican prophesy.

6. You won't catch me saying he can't win
I think he has an excellent shot. He's got a lot of momentum and the money keeps coming in. Just because he's not my first choice doesn't make me bitter that he's doing well. I'm all about getting Bush out of the white house and if it turns out that Dean gets the nomination then I'm 100% behind him.

8. I think your point you are making is the mind-set of many anti-Dean folk
It fits the evidence, but I coubt it applies to very many.

9. Good analysis: I'm quite familiar with the personality type
Imagine having a (now-ex) business partner who takes pleasure in seeing you fall on your face.

Whenever I keep a positive attitude, I succeed. The self-fulfilling prophecy works both ways. I don't see how this wouldn't apply on a grand scale.

Sounds corny, but it works.

It's a repeat of the Gore fiasco.
