Jiacinto's Last Words
I have been asked by J. Carlos Jiacinto to print what he calls "My Last Words" as he has been banned from DU. Here is his entire text in his words:

My Last Words

This afternoon, after being a member of DU for more than two years, I found my account shut off. Apparently, trough researching the reasons, it stems from the fact that I criticized Al Sharpton in the Daily Democrat thread. For that reason my profile now is a tombstone. I wish that I could have been afforded the chance to at least exchange contact information with members with whom I converse.

In my time at DU I stood up for what I thought was right. Against the numerous insults and personal attacks I stood my ground. To be honest I knew that the day that I was going to be banned was going to come. For me it was a question of when, not if. That being said, while I feel that this decision was unjust, debating a decision that already has been made is not going to change the outcome of what happened.

By banning me, however, this site is losing someone with viewpoints that added to the diversity of the site. In my time I have caught lots of personal attacks because I dared to stand up to various factions here. I don't regret how I spoke to many of those on the far and to the Greens. I don't regret defending Senator Lieberman and the people of Israel against the unfair attacks that they receive on a daily basis at DU. I don't regret defending the Catholic church and other religions either.

American are never going to be radical leftists. That point, above all, seems what got me into trouble with my critics. My critics often attacked--they even hurled the nastiest of insults towards me--because I dared to say that most Americans are not anti-military and don't think that all soldiers are "baby killers." The Greens/Nader voters grew to resent me because I stood up to their self-serving arguments and the dishonest lies that they spread daily there. I read posts where people cheered the fact that a woman shopping at Wal-Mart after Thanksgiving was trampled.

In my time at DU I endured tons of insults and attacks from people--members today who are still in good standing, members who will never be banned. I am sure that they must be celebrating the fact that they will no longer have to deal with me or my views. To that I say--fine. You won. Your wish came true and now I am gone. You won't ever have to read a post again from me on DU.

However, even though you may have won this battle, you haven't won the war. Far from that. There are more voters like me than like you in the electorate. Most Americans like the Pledge of Allegiance. Most Americans don't have a knee jerk hatred of the military or law enforcement. Most Americans don't buy into the crazy conspiracy theories about 9/11 and JFK's assassination. Al Shapton is not an acceptable candidate fro the general election. You don't win elections by insulting and by browbeating people.

I am against Bush, have volunteered for Democrats, and have donated money to candidates opposing Republicans. I have put in my effort and time. While my days at DU are apparently over I will now use the free time I have now to effect change outside of the cyber world. To those I made friends with I will miss you all. To that end I ahve enclosed my email address: [email protected] Should any of you wish to contact me and keep in touch I can be reached there. Otherwise I wish you all the best of luck in the future. It is just a shame that DU apparently no longer has room for the views of a moderate Democrat.

Carlos

A couple of thoughts that I feel are fair to be made. First, in fairness to Skinner and company Carlos had been warned repeatedly about his conduct on DU. I know it because Carlos told me about this. It wasn't just that he said something critical of Al Sharpton on what is supposed to be a positive thread.

Second, As I was writing this I was waiting for Carlos to say, "You won't have Jiacinto to kick around anymore." It is probably this self-pitying attitude of his that he has been attacked but he never attacked anyone else that has gotten him in trouble.

Finally, I honestly will miss Carlos on DU. He had an alternative opinion that when he didn't get it messed up with his obsession about Greens, ect was refreshing to read on DU. He had an amazing knowledge of election knowledge which he liked to share and which is truly interesting. I know the last few months were hard for him personally and I hope he will find some outlet now that he lives in Iowa (a great place for a political junkie to be right now)to continue his work on behalf of Democratic candidates.

Good Luck, Carlos.
