Before anyone thinks I'm naive, hear me out.
My understanding is that bu$h will sign it next week (Tuesday, maybe?). Given all of the questions surrounding its passage, especially in the House, bu$h could refuse to sign this bill, on the grounds that it is flawed legislation. He could call for another vote to remove all of the questions surrounding the way it was passed.
I know he won't do it. But somebody (Either Clinton would be my first choice) should challenge this legislation by publicly calling for a presidential veto. Not only will this raise more attention to the flaws in the bill, but it will preserve an objection for posterity. Lawyers sometimes object during trials, not because they think it will work at the time, but to preserve the issue for an appeal down the road. Why nobody is thinking along these lines escapes me, but time to do it is running short.
