Upsetting: Dick Morris also says that Dean can't win...
On ABC earlier today:

http://www.abc.net.au/correspondents/content/2003/s1004824.htm

What's worse, I have searched the entire Internet for a scenario whereby Dean can win the 2004 election. It's not there.

22. We need to build a political movement
Edited on Sat Dec-06-03 01:45 PM by terrisel
My preference would be to run a candidate who is most likely to appeal to a broad range of voters and can thereby win. I think a lame-duck Bush will be a president who will totally destroy the US and am therefore willing to compromise greatly in order to prevent Bush's election. The Supreme Court, among other things is as stake.

However When Kucinek stands against Diebold and helps cause Diebold to back down or Dean gives money to Congressional candidates I am reminded of 2 things.

1. If the above is true-Kucinek has actually accomplished something very important that other candidates have failed to do-expose election fraud. What does it matter if Kerry is most likely to win against Bush, if he continues to ignore the voting fraud and ends up losing because Diebold counts the votes?

2. What does it matter if our Democratic candidate wins but can't govern because the House and Senate is completely taken over by the Rabid Right. That core group of the enemies of a free America can't be appeased. Clinton tried to appease them. He failed.
The core Rabid Republicans are out for blood and victory at any price. They are the people who are willing to destroy the Human Village in order control it. They can't be appeased. They have to be defeated. They can't be defeated unless they are first exposed.

If our "candidates" continue to ignore the issues because they are receiving their funds from the sources of our problems or are otherwise compromised how do we ever really win?

Dean has apparently constructed a real Money Machine that is not dependent on the mega-corporations and that money machine may be able to do battle with the corporate media and get a message across the country in spite of them.....Does that sound like a man who can't win?

Let's face facts. We were at war during Campaign 2000 and the enemy had successfully cut our lines of communication and was broadcasting lies about our candidate. We won the war anyway but the enemy was able to declare itself victorious-not just because they controlled a majority of Supreme Court justices but because they controlled communications.

Turn off MSNBC. Turn off CNN. Turn off Fox News. Turn off Talk Radio. Then listen. What do you hear.........listen carefully .....that is all you have in the way of communications to fight the people making war against us.

We have to start using what we have and building those connections. You can't win a war by begging the enemy to let you use their communications system for your message to your troops.

Pay him NO attention. He went on an attack campaign against Clinton because Clinton didn't defend him when his little affair with the "prostitute" came out...Clinton let him go and it pissed him off. He's out to get the Democrats. Ignore him.

Dob Bole, if you want a candidate who is a SURE THING, vote for Clark. There's NO QUESTION that he can beat the shrub in a LANDSLIDE VICTORY.

to hang on the words of one of the most certifiably insane repuke pundits of our day. Morris is a shill for the rightwing agenda, even hannity looks at him like he from another planet when he's forced to interview him on Faux spouting his demented leftwing conspiracy theories, that's how far out there this nut case is. That you would even be "upset" by something this demented moron has to say, is really disheartening.

If you want to try to convince people that Howard Dean is "unelectable", you will have to do much better than this.

40. Dick Morris
Morris may be a shrewd political strategist, but the fact is that virtually ALL of his predictions have been wrong. In 1998, he predicted that the Republicans would win a landslide victory in the mid-term elections. They lost. In 1999, he predicted that President Clinton would be removed from office during the Senate impeachment trial. He was aquitted. In 2000, Morris predicted that Hillary would not run for Senate (she did) and when she did he predicted that she would lose (she won). In 2000 he also predicted that McCain would beat Bush in the GOP primaries. Bush won. Etc.

So don't worry about what Dick Morris says.

42. I don't like Dick Morris, but
he is right. Dean can't win.

His anger, which has motivated much of the left half of the Democratic party is going to alienate a lot of independents. He will not get many votes from the so-called Reagan Democrats, and many disgruntled Republicans will return to Bush rather than vote for Dean.

Then you can be happy. Right?

Anyone making such sweeping predictions this far in advance of the election has no intellectual integrity. He has a couple of amusing observations but no real basis for a final conclusion. He is probably correct in that the political dynamic will change over the next year. In this regard the issues that seem golden today for our candidates, may lose some luster tomorrow. His analysis assumes that the candidate, Dean or otherwise, will be unresponsive and continue to plug away at the same old issues.

This type of analysis is typical of a two dimensional thinker playing a three dimensional game. Both ends of this equation are free to move. Secondly there are feedback loops where action-reaction dynamics occur. Thirdly there are exogenous forces that exert both random and directed influence over the political dynamic.

He prepares his analysis on an intellectually convenient understanding of how events will unfold. It is intellectually convenient because it supports his conclusion. In the final analysis this scenario is no more plausible than hundreds of others any competent fortune teller could create.

So perhaps to maintain my intellectual integrity, I will pass on creating bogus scenarios for entertainment.
