Can we recall the recall?

Suppose the Republicans succeed in ousting Gray Davis. I don't think they will, but suppose they do. Can the Dems then start a recall of "Arnold" or whoever?

That's the problem with the California recall law and lots of other laws. They depend on civic mindedness and fair play. When you have impeachment, K Street projects, attacks on people's patriotism, the Rush/Ann movements, etc., some of these laws don't work well.

I think this California recall and the lack of Republican civic mindedness it shows should be a Democratic issue in 2004. The Texas redistricting move is yet another example. These "new" Republicans are willing to abuse our laws and divide the country. The evidence is in.

And that's not only possible but likely. If Davis is ousted and someone else wins, that winner likely garners a tiny fraction of the vote (say, 20 percent) -- less support than Gray Davis. Then we begin again.
