Will we win California and Ohio in 2004 for the Dem nominee?
In response to my earlier post about Arnold, people said that Rove would only need him through '04. That being said, Arnold will probably be a puppet for Bush in the upcoming election. Will people in California listen to him then or will the (hopefully) do what they have done in the past, vote for a Democrat?

As for Ohio (and Pennsylvania), that guy from Diebold said that he would make sure that Ohio's votes go to *. But Ohio is a swing state and would be hurt by the repeal of tarriffs. As for Pennsylvania, Bush is courting them heavily right now too, but could stand to lose it in '04.

I know how critical each state is.

1. Ohio maybe... but I doubt California...
judging by Arnie-fest 2003... I can just see the campaign ads now...

(in Ah-nold voice)"A vote for (Dean/Clark/Kerry/Gephardt/Edwards) is a vote for Gray Davis... AND THE PEOPLE OF CALIFORNIA SAY NO TO GRAY DAVIS!"

2. yes we can win both states particularly California
Arnold did not run as a Bush clone. He supported gay rights and is pro-choice. On social issues Arnold is to the left of the GOP. Bush is not popular in California--never has been.

Ohio is tougher it is not as culturally liberal as California, but if we can make solid economic arguements about disappearing jobs and dwindling incomes then I think it can be won.

4. I thought that the steel tariff issue would affect Ohio jobs
If that's true, then wouldn't Ohio be in play?

7. I have to agree
California won't go for Bush. By then, all the idjits will be fed up with Ah-nold, too.

3. Ohio is going to be a toughie
but I doubt we will lose California. We won by a pretty large margin.

5. Ohio is definitely in play
for the steel tariff repeal, among other things. We've got an almost total stranglehold of State offices - and the governorship - by Republicans and our economy sucks. Starting to bite 'em all in the butt - Taft, etc., are getting increasingly unpopular. Bush could lose out on a reverse coattail kinda thing.

They know it too, which is why Bush and/or Cheney are here seemingly every other week.

Of course, the Dems could blow it again like Gore did by IGNORING or giving up on Ohio. The fact that not a single Dem candidate has come to this "must win" state (outside of Kucinich, obviously) except for drop-in private fund raisers does not bode well. Yeah, this is a recurrent whine of mine, but it drives me nuts that none of them see past the primaries as far as Ohio is concerned. They don't need the primary to win cuz it's so late, but they also can't completely ignore it NOW and then expect to pick up steam after. Wouldn't take much, but a rally or two or three - especially in NEOhio would be a really, really prudent idea.

6. The steel tariff flip flop puts Ohio in play
And perhaps someone from Ohio can speak to this, but didn't the Democrats do very well there in the off year elections?
