Draft Jesse Jackson before it's too late! (Jackson/Gephardt 2004)
http://www.lwv.org/elibrary/video/debates.html

I was still a kid when Jackson ran the first time, but after reading a lot about the time period and watching this video, I want to start a Draft Jesse Jackson campaign. This debate is quite instructive - we have Al Gore, Mike Dukakis and Gary Hart and some guy I don't know each repeating some "New Democrat" lines and fighting to see which can appear the most "moderate". They are all warning us against the "policies of the past" and other neo-liberal sounding phrases.

Richard Gephardt is talking about protecting American jobs, while the others are talking about which tax break to corporations will bribe them to stay. Jesse Jackson is talking about the criminal actions of the Bush/Reagan regime (the original) and their complicity in the cocaine trade which was destroying our major cities, while the rest are talking about "the character issue".

I'd like more Democrats like Jesse Jackson, Richard Gephardt, and Dennis Kucinich, personally.

2. LOL
just add the word "Dean" to your subject line – regardless of whether or not it makes any sense – and you can be sure you'll get at least 20 responses.

;)

3. Jesse Jackson? WTF are you smoking?
I'm sure embezzlement from the Rainbow Push, a "love" child from an adultering relationship, and the constant assertion that everything is racism makes him a fine candidate...

I live in Chicago. We have to put up with Jackson... trust me.... YOU DON'T WANT THIS GUY NEAR ANY OF THE CANDIDATES!

Unless you want to commit political suicide that is.

6. "constant assertion that everything is racism"
Are you saying that Jesse Jackson exaggerates racism in American business and politics?

8. YES!
I remember a large fight that was caught on tape during a football game at an Illinois High school, not too long ago. Dozens were injured... it was brutal... the kids were expelled for starting the large brawl, and Jackson road down there and immediately played the race card...

YES HE USES "RACISM" ALL THE TIME...

7. Ah, memories....
I cut my teeth in politics on the Dukakis 1988 campaign. I supported an "electable" moderate instead of sticking with my principles. Sure, the Duke got the nomination, but when it came time to face down the Bush I machine, he waffled around so much that it was next to impossible to fill in that ballot.

I learned my lesson though. NEVER sell out your convictions, no matter what the price. You end up losing, one way or another.

That was why I got behind Wellstone early in 1990, and also why I'm behind Dennis Kucinich today. I learned (through my lukewarm support of Clinton in 1992) that even if you vote for the "electable" moderate, you'll end up getting sold down the river on many important issues-- if "your" candidate doesn't believe the same things you do, do you honestly think he'll suddenly "change" in office and become more liberal?

Highly doubtful. Look how Clinton/Gore jacked over the liberals. Stick to your convictions. In the primaries, vote your HEART. You'll have time to vote for a "moderate" (if you need to) in the general election.
