Lieberman: Win In Iraq Needed To Avert Global Religious War
http://www.ctnow.com/news/politics/hc-joe1201.artdec01,1,3981687.story?coll=hc-headlines-politics

WASHINGTON -- The United States needs to triumph in Iraq to prevent a global religious war, Connecticut Democrat Joe Lieberman said Sunday.

Speaking on "Fox News Sunday," the 2004 presidential candidate, a longtime supporter of toppling Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, defended American actions there now as crucial not only to U.S. interests, but also to the future of the world.

"There is no substitute for victory here," Lieberman said. "We must pull together across party lines, here in the United States."

The world must pull together, too, he said, and the president has not yet been able to rally either his own country or others.

What he needs to do, Lieberman said, is convince skeptics that "this is a battle to stop al Qaeda, Saddam Hussein and every other enemy of freedom and modernity from turning the beginning of the 21st century into what is truly unbelievable, which would be a global religious war."

3. Well, the fact is...
(before you flame me, I'm NOT NOT NOT anti-semitic) he's Jewish and the survival fo Israel is therefore MORE important than the safety of the U.S.
Christianity has been AT LEAST as culpable in bringing the chances of religious war to the forefront.

5. I agree
But perhaps by agreeing with you I am revealing deep-seated anti-sematism?
Kennedy was Catholic, and people used to say that he would put the needs of the Church before the United States. Why do I think that Leiberman would put Israel's security ahead of American security?

Just something to think about.

7. "Victory"
What exactly does Joe mean by "victory" in this context?
