Another reason why Canada LOVES Clinton
Since Bush became president, my country, Canada is on less than friendly terms with the U.S.A. government....I believe many Americans (not the people in DU) believe we have let you down, by not joining the attack on Iraq....These words from President Clinton are very welcome, although I doubt they will ever be seen by most of your citizens....
In a Time magazine article about Canada-U.S. relations, Clinton took issue with President George W. Bush and other senior administration officials who criticized Chretien's unwillingness to commit Canadian troops to the war.
<snip>
"It was a low moment in our long and mostly happy coexistence.
<snip>
Clinton said the Bush administration failed to recognize Canada's contribution to Afghanistan, including "the brave soldiers who died there," in its criticism of Chretien's refusal to commit troops to Iraq without UN authorization.
<snip>
"Two thousand Canadian soldiers are serving in Afghanistan today," he wrote. "To denounce Canada when Canadians are fighting and dying in the war on terrorism is offensive to all who value our long friendship." (Actually, I believe there are more like 5,000 troops, but that's O.K.)
<snip>
He expressed gratitude Chretien committed $100 million to deliver lifesaving medicine to people living with AIDS in Africa and said he was confident prime minister-designate Paul Martin "will continue the path of leadership in the fight against HIV/AIDS."

P.S.....President Clinton has been up here several times since 9/11 on speaking engagements and always draws large, enthusiastic crowds....

1. Thanks for this!
Clinton is loved here! If Bush ever shows his ugly mug here, he, too, will be greeted with large crowds, large crowds holding protest signs.

3. LOL yeah, that was a keeper!
I also remember the disgusting picture of Mulroney and Reagan singing "When Irish Eyes are Smiling". It took a long time for me to like that song again after that.

4. Chretien and Clinton have been long time friends...
Clinton was a president Canadians respected. Bush has been nothing but insulting for the most part to Canadians, and the U.S. media when they mention Canada tend to be more then harsh.

I still remember the O'Rielly rant about Chretien not supporting the war and that Canadians better smarten up and vote him out of office or he wouldn't bother visiting Canada anymore and he knew a lot of Americans felt the same way...

6. Yeah, Clinton loved you so much, he signed NAFTA which allows
the US to take Canadian oil and other energy resources in a time of crisis. Do a google search. You may not like what you find.

Here it is: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=NAFTA+Canadian+oil

You can love him all you want. Just you wait. In time you'll look back and hate him.

Sorry, but Clinton's a hypocrite looking for personal glory and ego massage, nothing more. It's lip service, nothing more.

NAFTA is destructive and is not free (so much for Canadian drugs coming into the US) and is so lopsided in favor of the US... And just think of how its successor, the FTAA, will help the US big corporations while they urinate on everybody else. Clinton may or may not be for NAFTA, but Bush certainly would be, and Dean is. x(

to the most powerful nation on earth....We do the best we can to hold our own in these deals....Clinton was certainly, far superior as a friend to Canada, than Bush or Reagan....:D
