Why Islamicists targetted Turkey
http://www.hindustantimes.com/news/181_467883,0005.htm

<snip>

Turkish investigators on Friday arrested suspects in Thursday's suicide bombings on the British consulate and a London-based bank. A daily newspaper said police were interrogating seven people in the attacks, which killed at least 27 people. Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul confirmed the arrests but would not give details.

Turkish officials said the Al-Qaeda had launched the attacks to destabilise a moderate Muslim country that supports the US-led war on terrorism.

These officials expect further attacks. "If you see that the table is not destroyed in the first (attack), you get a second," Mehmet Dulger, chairman of the Turkish parliament's foreign affairs committee, said on Thursday.

"Turkey is a logical target,” said Mark Parris, a former US ambassador to Turkey. "It embodies the proposition that you can be Muslim and still have fruitful, positive relationships with non-Muslim societies. That is a real threat to what Al-Qaeda and its allies represent."

1. Turkey
Could it be Turkey is targeted because it is aiding a Christian nation in blatant agression against a fellow Muslim country in the hopes of picking up a piece of the spoils?

Nah! They would not do that.

10. Could it possibly be
that they were attacking soft British targets as their own protest of the UK's support of the American agression in the middle east at the same time the Brits were showing their displeasure for the same reason during Bush's vist?

Nah...that would make to much sense. :eyes:

5. it, and 'islamist', are used to mean
"a supporter or advocate of Islamic fundamentalism", rather than just a Muslim. It implies wanting Islamic law for a whole country (or even the world).

11. At least 4 reasons
Turkey is :

1) Secular. For the Islamists the Turkish constitution is illegal. (as was Iraq of Saddam)

2) ally of Irael. Their armies often train together. (at the time of the Turkish earthquakes the first foreign aid is israeli, for example)

3) ally of the USA and a muslim member of NATO. The only muslim country which wanted to send troops in Iraq

4) led by the muslim party which won the last elections (perhaps a "moderate" islamist, but islamist) and prove a re-islamicization of the turkish society. The islamists believe that the time is up for including Turkey in their strategy of conquest at the EU borders

12. Wait a minute. We were told Iraq was the "roach motel" for terrorists.
If they are actually operating someplace else, were we misled again?
