Here's a reminder:

3. Clinton was never "liberal" concerning foreign policy...
Be it democrat or republican, they both are capitalist imperialists in their foreign policy. Just because you may be perceived as liberal on domestic issues doesn't automatically translate to a liberal foreign policy. The history of US foreign intervention is one full of invasions, human rights abuses and occupations all for the benefit of corporate interests disguised as "national interest".

47. I've decided Kerry also
with a Southerner as the VP candidate, preferably Clark, but I could settle with Graham.

I, too, am disappointed in the Big Dog. My own tin foil hat appeared when I heard him on Larry King - maybe he doesn't want the Dems to win in 2004 so that Hilary would be the candidate in 2008. I hate thinking like that, but that was how I felt. That kind of Freeper-like mentality on my part is downright scary.

58. I always keep an open mind.
I am an information junkie and don't dimiss ANYTHING out of hand, including some conspiracy theories even more radical than the Mena stuff. I believe that history teaches us to consider even the most incredible explanations for human events. For example, fifty years ago how many people would have believeD the story about the number of Catholic priests molesting children that was on the news today? I am sure that this story would have dismissed as a "nutty" one.

And the primary conspiracy theorist for the Mena/drug plot also implicates the Bushes as well as Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton seems to be "compromised" somehow--that is not a wild theory.

p.s. I predicted that the latest round of Boeing layoffs would be the "nail in Gary Locke's coffin" here in Washington state. He announced he wasn't running for reelection a few days later. Sometimes I get things right.

never again hold bill clinton in the same regard after last night's comments...

some folks on here seem to think clinton was in some way trying to 'pull one over' on the repubs and bush*... i couldn't disagree more... that's just grasping for straws IMO...

let's face it: clinton's comments serve as a MUCH needed reminder that both he AND hillary are DLC MODERATES at best, who've only allowed the republicans to gain the power they have in recent years...

so thanks, bill, for reinforcing my and many others' belief that we, as the the democratic party, MUST 'move on' from the recent past and start anew... finding a fresh, strong, liberal leader... leaving you and the other bought-and-sold failed democratic establishment behind in the DLC dust...

...while our country goes deeper into the shitter and the Bushies continue to do irreparable harm to our government.

- Bush* is not going to fall apart or implode. No white knight will show up at the last moment to save us from ourselves. There's a real good chance that Bush* might actually be in office for at least eight years.

- The Democratic party needs to do what's right or prepare themselves for another loss in 2004.

51. To chill or not to chill...that is the question.
- Okay...I'm chilling.

- Indeed...strange things are happening. It just doesn't make sense for any Dem to give the Bushies an out when it comes to accepting responsibility.

- Dems were indeed making progress...something had lit a fire under their collective asses (at least in congress) and they were DEMANDING that they be heard as part of the democratic process of government. Other Dems were shedding their chickenshit image and actually talking about real investigations and hearings.

- It takes a certain kind of momentum to push congress into doing something about an out of control executive branch. We can only hope that Clinton and other dupes like him don't put out the fire with their self-serving rhetoric.

46. thanks for saying it
i got fed up with bill and al after a few years. i was elated when he won, and the second term tickled me too, but then his shiny facade wore off for me. they threw monica at him and he bit like a carp and gave the repubs everything they ever wanted. he didn't fight back hard enough about it. even though he took more shit than any president before him, i admired him for that, but he gave in to them too much on many issues. and although he admitted he'd smoked weed, he didn't do anything to decriminalize it.

then al lost to bush in the debates. what a disgrace. al should have fought harder against being called a liar and all the other attacks. i voted for bill twice and al once, and would again i suppose, but reluctantly. we need tougher fighters to oppose the asshole gop. and when bill suggested we move on on the lying in the SOTU issue, i was pissed. if that's all he can to do help, he should just shut up.

50. God Fucking Damnit, Will, I'd expect better of you
You know why liberals always lose? Because we hate to win. We can't stand a winner. If someone wins, they sold out, by definition. It's like all those music polls around here. Ask liberals who the best band ever was, or the best album, or whatever, and they feel ultra cool if the can name some thirty year old farce who put out one album instead of someone who acquired millions of fans over a long period of time. Or they name some band that did make it but proclaim that the went downhill after they became popular. Winners suck, and so we never win.

Fuck that. Fuck Clinton bashers. He won. I like winners. I trust them more than losers. He did a damn good job against all odds. He was a credit to the party and to liberalism, even if "liberals" prefer the political equivalent of that same musical farce mentioned above. "Paul Tsongas never sold out, Dude!" Forget the fact that Tsongas was a supply-sider, the very fact that he lost makes him a "pure liberal."

Clinton refused to act all pouty and whiny about a dead issue, and suddenly he's the anti-christ, or the anti-whatever-diety. He did Bush more harm than good in that interview, if anyone read it, with his criticism of the current situation in Iraq. He did himself more good-- and thus Bush and the Republicans more harm-- than he did for Bush. But anybody who refused to hate Bush publicly with all the bitterness and vitriol they can muster is suddenly Bush's ally. The liberal Orwell Though Police are checking our hate rallies to make sure we are all screaming loud enough.

You know better, Will. You know what Clinton meant. You know it would have done nothing but hurt our cause if he had gone off on a tirade about the Niger documents and was later proven wrong. He went by the evidence. So far all the evidence shows is that the CIA and British intel disagree, and Bush trusted the British. If there's more proof, then the situation changes, but so far that's all there is, and Clinton knows it. He's not a political attack dog, he's a former president, and he acts like it.

Edited on Wed Jul-23-03 09:55 PM by WilliamPitt
was either a) Go off on the Niger thing, or b) Give that comment he did. How about c) Shut the fuck up. Say nothing. "I'm sorry, Larry, but historically it is bad form for former Presidents to criticize sitting Presidents." There's your statesman-like comment, with a little "What did he want to say" mystery aura to boot.

From a different thread: I get it. My subtle higher brain enjoys the irony. But my blunt-ass lower lizard brain hears him calling all this stuff no big deal. I don't think he single-handedly messed this whole thing up. But despite everyone saying THIS IS IT and BUSH IS SCREWED, I remember 42,109 other times these fuckers have squirmed out of the corner and survived. I cannot abide anything that comes within a parsec of helping them do this.

I like winners, too. But this is the winner who laid hands on the intern when the entire wingnut world was after his ass, and he knew it. I think he is not above being questioned for having bad god damned judgment on occassions.

55. Truth and move on
First, Hillary votes for killing -

Then Bill says move on?

I despise what Republicans did to the Clintons, I admire many of the things the Clintons tried to do and I acknowledge their sentiment on many issues....

but there is no forgiving them for this. I keep thinking they are savvy enough to have something up their sleeve in their actions, but after all these months in the case of H and all these hours in the case of B, I can't figure out any tactic, strategy, or manuever to do what they should be doing - NOT take lives for corporations and mil brass, intelligence, Israel, and British-American imperialism.

It's like Dec 12, 2000....the Dems lay down and play dead.

64. ever kill half a million children?
Edited on Wed Jul-23-03 10:47 PM by StandWatie
Have them shit their lives away at the rate of 15 liters of feces a day because they have dysentary?

All because you continued to impose sanctions on Chlorine to sanitize drinking water because Saddam was making the great engine of death to destroy the West and then it turns out there isn't shit over there and you were just a paranoid fool like Stalin?

Yeah, there are mistakes and there are mistakes.

Edited on Wed Jul-23-03 10:59 PM by StandWatie
I'm just making an observation about Clinton and exactly what it would mean if all that Sturm und Drang sabre rattling and more importantly it's real world consequences meant to real human beings who paid the ultimate price for what appears to have been nothing politics and an attempt to be "tough" on Saddam while Hussein ate steaks and half a million children died.

I have no idea why you would take that failing personally.

70. Let's focus on Bush, the unethical liar
The war in Iraq is a mess for lot's of reasons. But having an unethical bastards like Bush 'n Cheney continue to run the show will only mean more misery for the Iraqi's, Americans, Israeli's, Palestinians, <fill in the blank>.

Will, it's like I said a few weeks ago:

Bush campaigned on his integrity, honesty, etc. I think
you've said it, but to me it seems blazingly clear -- if Bush
found out the Niger thing was bogus, even 1 day before the
start of the war, he should have revisited the issue with
congress and the american public before committing people to
their deaths. (And it's very clear he knew before the war
the nuclear issue was bogus).

Supposing you went to the doctor, had some tests, and the
doctor says "we gotta cut your leg off to save your life", and
you say, "ok". Now, 1 hour before the operation, the doctor
finds out your test results were swapped with another patient.
Does the doctor cut your leg off anyway, just to appear
competent? No! An ethical doctor will inform you of the
mistake, review the situation and you proceed from there.

72. THE MAIN TENT HUH?
when does the word purposeful extermination kick in? OH SURE they pragmatically tie it all up as collateral damage, but while the Oil people landed set and ready for work, there is STILL no water!!! CHILDREN die from JUST diarrhea, forget all the other diseases.

The pictures coming back to the US set it up like the friendly Americans helping the biege and brown people. Not that I am surprised, I am not. But these graphics...............

In WWII we came on the rescue. We liberated in WWII...This is a horror that has been unleashed on these people. The majority just innocent babies children boys girls mothers fathers...

I might now just spit into the face of another flag waving republican who is completely uninformed and tells me i am ignorant because IT WAS ONLY SIXTEEN WORDS IN A 45 MINUTE SPEECH...

Well Mr. Pitt... thanks for the reality check.

Edited on Thu Jul-24-03 09:07 PM by FreedomReload
So Kerry, the guy running for President in 2004, is off the hook for actually making the war happen due to some shitty compromise argument you made up yet Clinton, the guy who had no power, is taking the heat as the definite traitor???? Bullshit. I suggest you get your head out of that maggothole and look at what your saying.
