Priscilla Owens beat a Libertarian with 84% of the vote
Edited on Fri Nov-14-03 11:08 AM by Gman
We've heard a lot about how Priscilla Owens must be mainstream because she won her last election with 84% of the vote. That asshole Santorum was ranting about that just a few minutes ago. The facts are that the Democrats didn't even field a candidate to run against her in 2000. Owens' only opponent was a Libertarian. And, if memory serves correctly, and I'm sure it does, her opponent spent absolutely no money on TV, radio or print. I don't think the guy even campaigned. Meanwhile Owens had commercials running several times a day right before the election.

This is just another example of peeling back just a layer or two of the RW's arguments to find out the real story.

Justice, Supreme Court, Place 2
Priscilla Owen(I) REP 3,860,541 84.26%
Joe Alfred Izen, Jr. LIB 721,034 15.73%
-----------
Race Total 4,581,575

2. Interesting, someone pointed out
something similar for Janice Brown in another thread. She actually only had like 49%. This just shows that whenever Repugs start talking the lies starting flying.

3. You confirmed my suspicion
After hearing the GOP shills report her reelection numbers over and over again, I figured the Dems probably didn't even have a candidate running against her. Anyone who listened closely to this 30 hour circus, could pick up several "manipulations" of the truth by the GOP. Towards the end, the GOP got downright silly with their cardboard posters with twisted numbers to support their silly argument.
