Drudge Reporting Jessica Says Army Story is a "fable"
Edited on Thu Nov-06-03 11:14 PM by economic justice
Jessica Lynch criticized military for exaggerating accounts of her rescue and recasting her ordeal as patriotic fable.... MORE.. Asked by ABCNEWS anchor Diane Sawyer if military's portrayal of rescue bothered her, Lynch said: 'Yeah, it does. It does that they used me as a way to symbolize all this stuff. Yeah, it's wrong' ... Asked how she felt about reports of her heroism: 'It hurt in a way that people would make up stories that they had no truth about. Only I would have been able to know that, because the other four people on my vehicle aren't here to tell the story. So I would have been the only one able to say, Yeah, I went down shooting. But I didn't' ... Asked about claims the military exaggerated danger of the rescue mission: 'Yeah, I don't think it happened quite like that'...

3. Yep, now don't people feel foolish for insulting her so badly?
Whatever she has done, she is coming out and speaking the truth, however belatedly.

31. I think you are dead wrong.
Time will tell, of course. I'm not sure I can fault her for taking her one chance to escape powerty and help her friends and family out.

But if you consider she could have easily "played ball 100%" and not said a damned thing, I think this mitigates her "cashing in" quite a bit.

Look, it would be wonderful if we all could be 100% moral and 100% perfect and turn down the $1,000,000 (or whatever) that could help out Mom and Dad and Brother and Sister (not to mention herself), then tell the trut also.

But we are all humans. You might not agree but I would say she is making amends to her conscience and to the Amerikan people. She didn't invent that story. Hell, the Busheviks kept her locked away to keep the story from coming out.

She didn't have to do this, but she did. And it will probably cost her, maybe her life a couple years from now when she's out of the spotlight (beware small planes, jessica!).

Think about it, skittles.

Let's see how this thing plays out.

Jessica Lynch is just as complicit in the lies as the Bush misAdministration is.

Thank you for standing up in the name of truth. You were a hero for going to Iraq, and you are a hero for telling the truth about what happened when you were there.

May you live a happy and prosperous life.

8. those BFEE motherfuckers
this is a fucking kid who was sent to a nightmare illegal war and then was hurt because the place was FUBAR and then was really hurt by Pentagon PR and I am sure some measure of brainwashing.

The more she tells the truth, the worse and worse I feel for her, but the more important it becomes that she tells the truth.

14. It is good to hear this, I've argued with so many people
since this began. It seemed that people were blaming her for the obvious lies our government was promoting. There is still away to go before I can make an informed judgment about her.

I am bothered that she cashed in on the book deal and did not put any of the money in a trust for the families of the other soldiers who died in her crash. I know that greed is something that is accepted in our country--but it is sad to witness.

Charleston attorney Stephen Goodwin said Lynch wanted to set up the foundation after her best friend Spc. Lori Piestewa, 22, of Tuba City, Ariz., was killed in the ambush that left Lynch near death.

The Hopi Tribe member, who became the first servicewoman to die in the war in Iraq, left behind two young children, Brandon, 5, and Carla, 3.

Piestewa wanted her children to go to college, and Lynch hopes the foundation will help them and many others who may need help realizing educational goals, Goodwin said.

"This is because of Lori more than anything," Goodwin said. "Jessi loves little kids and wanted to give something back."
...
Goodwin said the foundation will be funded with proceeds from Lynch's upcoming book and other revenue sources

Be careful Jess.. you are dealing with high and heavy powers of politics and propaganda. The forces that be are strong, and dont like the truth.

But, it is nice to see someone being treated like a pawn stand up and fight back. She's got more guts than the entire Bush White House (Or Yellow, coward yellow; House).

I hope she continues to stand up and tell it like it is.

22. Link to full ABC News story here
http://abcnews.go.com/sections/Primetime/US/Jessica_Lynch_031106-4.html

... The U.S. military filmed the rescue, and U.S. television networks aired the dramatic green night-vision footage repeatedly as they reported how the special forces team, acting on a tip from a brave Iraqi lawyer, engaged in firefights on their way into and out of the hospital.

"I don't think it happened quite like that," Lynch said, "though … anyone, you know, in that kind of situation would obviously go in with force, not knowing who was on the other side of the door."

It later emerged that there were no firefights at the hospital. The hospital staff said there were no Iraqi soldiers there, and questioned the need for the Americans to use force. Lynch told Sawyer she does not remember seeing the lawyer, Mohammed Odeh al-Rehaief, who is the focus of a TV movie that is being made without her participation. But if he did help her, she said, she is grateful.

Asked whether the military's portrayal of the rescue bothers her, Lynch said, "Yeah, it does. It does that they used me as a way to symbolize all this stuff. I mean, yeah, it's wrong … I don't know what they had … or why they filmed it."

24. Cheers, Jessica!
I think of myself at that age, imagine being in her boots, and think... "I'm really not so sure how I would be able to deal with all of that." In all honesty, I'm not sure I could go against that conditioning and tell it as I remembered it, rather than how I was being programmed. Yes, now I could. But at that age...?

What a woman you are, Jessica!

35. This will get interesting
In light of this event, I have to apologize for my negative attitude toward her. I was pissed at her because I thought she was just helping perpetuate the right wing lies. But it seems she actually is an honorable person.

Now, she is saying that the military and government played up and overexaggerated her story. If this gets covered, how long do you think it will take before BushCo and the reichwingers start blaming the "liberal media" for reporting the lies about her? I say it won't take any time at all.

"Its everyone's fault but mine" Should be Bush's slogan in 2004.
