Good day for Bush campaign
My goodness. How many tv ads can write themselves in one day? First if Dean wins the nomination, all the Repugs need to do is grab quotes from other Democrats just annihilating him. You have Sharpton's "anti-black" thing. You can pull Lieberman's "Dean depression" quote. You can grab the quote about raising the retirement age. Suddenly, you have a racist who hates old people and is going to destroy the economy. Oh yea, you can also get his own quotes on the Palestinians and anger Jewish voters. I am sure these ads were finished by 5:00 today.

The second ad was handed to them by Zel Miller. "Even Democrats know that Bush is right for America." That's really going to help us in the south.

So basically, in one day, we've been hurt with blacks and southerners. Not good times.

I can't wait until Sharpton gets his prime-time convention speech and scares the ever-living shit out of suburbanites.

I went from being optimistic about our chances 24 hours ago to now expecting a wipe-out a la 84.

Someone show me the good side of all this.

1. Vote Leiberman!
Not really, unless we nominate Leiberman. The rest cannot possibly win, at least I'm convinced of it.

20. How on Earth could Lieberman win?
Edited on Wed Oct-29-03 07:39 PM by w4rma
I'm not saying that Sen. Lieberman is a Republican or a bad guy. I just think he is an awful campaigner. He has done nothing but drop in the polls. That should say something about your logic, Pontus.

I can't understand how folks get it into their head that one of the worst campaigners of the Democratic candidates is better than the best campaigner that the Democratic Party has ever seen run for the presidency. Its whacko.

2. Dean did a good job with his Metrosexual comment
that will play well in the heartland. He tried to back away but it is too late. Rove already has it in his video vault on the top shelf.

5. I forgot that
He should just get the Queer Eye guys to do his nominating speech.

Really really bad day for us.

3. Don't even worry about it
Put Dean on a stage next to Bush, and Dean wins, hands down.

4. I wouldn't get too worried
Edited on Wed Oct-29-03 06:09 PM by diplomats
This election will be a referendum on Bush, not our candidate, although I'm sure Rove will pull out all the stops. And I don't think Zell Miller's endorsement will make much of a difference, frankly. There will be no 1984 wipeout. Bush isn't nearly popular enough for that.

6. I don't think that's quite right
Sure it'll be a referendum on Bush, but Bush will win if we don't give people a POSITIVE alternative. A protest campaign, a purely or predominantly anti-Bush (or anti-anyone) campaign will not work. Never has. If people don't see the candidate as an affirmer of his/her own program, not just a negater of the other guy's, that's a recipe for losing. It's not enough to just sit back and say "See what a lousy job the dingbat is doing."

If our own party is basically saying our candidate is a racist idiot who send us into a Depression.

15. The perennial problem of the out-of-power party
And hoo boy, have we been playing the same game around here recently.

What's especially nifty-keeno for Karl, is that all he has to do is feed his dysinformation into the the Dem primary mixmaster and watch it get taken up and re-echoed around as if it was good as gold by his opponents and (far more so) their supporters.

Well it's just one of the disadvantages that favor the incumbant, whether he was elecetd or not--it's sytemic and I don't really see what can be done about it. I do what I can: I refuse to bash candidates, even Lieberman. Fairly futile, I suppose.

8. The worse thing is that everybody is accusing everybody else of lying.
That takes away one or our strongest issues against Bush. They'll show the democratic nominee saying one thing one day, and another thing another day. Then they'll show other democrats beating up that nominee for "flip-flopping". I wish this primary season would just get over. I fear it is really going to get ugly.

9. Shit. Thanks for Depressing Me.
Those are legit points. Depressing points, but legit. Especially considering the $200 MM Bush is going to have to blare his "message" to the people.

12. Sad Thing Is, I Don't See Much Desperation from the Republicans
I do see a LOT of our guys DESPERATELY trying to win the nomination, however, no matter how negative they have to go in order to do it.

So what? I don't really count Bush's (obviously partisan) mother as any kind of reflection on the Republican Party.

13. This has been the worst day in history
I was thinking there was a ray of hope for a while, and then I saw "thebosses" message. I now have seen the truth. The Democrats are doomed to eternal damnation. There's no hope. There's no future.

I simply can't go on.

Oh, the humanity...the humanity...

23. I also looked over at the Bartcop forum...
http://bartcopnation.com/dc/dcboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=2

No sign of depression at all on that board. Do you want to ask them why they don't "get it," or shall I?

Incidentally, they do a very good job at filtering out trolls over there.

17. You Seriously "Misunderestimate" the Power of $200 MM
And an apathetic American public.

We can indeed win this, but we need to be smart and dedicated, and also select the best, most electable candidate possible, in order to do so, IMO. If it's too close, Bush will steal it.
