Are we in the middle of the strongest series of attacks in Iraq?

Have there been more attacks in the last 30 hours than any other period since W. declared end of hostilities? Is it over? Or ae we still in the middle?

Why the 26-27 Oct.? Does it mean something to Saddam? Al Quaeda? Muslims?

Can anyone remember more attacks in a similar period?

2. Could Be Beginning of Ramadan, Or...

Could be that the attacks are coordinated with the beginning of Ramadan, or it could be that they were trying to send a message while Wolfie was in town. Understanding that the administration is desperate to recapture the spin on Iraq, they knew Wolfie would have lots of cameras following him around so what better time to attack?

Another interesting theory is that these attacks are being coordinated at Friday prayer services, which is why we are seeing a disproportional number of attacks on Sundays and Mondays.

Whoever is doing it, for whatever reason(s) they are doing it, they learned well from the Viet Cong and Mao.

4. Ramadan had just begun

and they say that has the month progesses people start to get into really bad moods because they have to fast all day. So if this is just the beginning, I hate to see what these folks will be doing by the end of the month.

(1) The "dead-enders" (Saddam's men) are trying one last run.
(2) Singular event.
(3) Turning point - the resistance is about to get much stiffer. There's some evidence for this - attacks are spiking, and some are quoted as saying there is a "new element" involved. It looks like they're getting soldiers into the country from Iran and Syria, with better weapons - explosives and rockets.

coordination, is it not? These sites are miles apart. Each needs checked out by the potential bombers, which would take days or weeks. (Would you risk or spend your life on something not thoroughly researched? If you were a suicide bomber, you'd like to have given your life for a discernable effect = research and planning.) Then when separate cells or a single individual deems enough is known to attack, an attack is scheduled. It sounds like more than a Friday-to-Monday sort of thing.

Will the Regime be forced to rescind that decision in light of the latest attacks? What would such a move provoke in a Muslim country? How'd you like to be making that call?
