Website for donating school supplies to Iraq
Edited on Fri Oct-24-03 04:19 PM by rmpalmer
Here you will find images, letters and updates about the conditions in the schools there and how efforts to help are working. You will also find up-to-date information on how to prepare and ship school supplies. This effort of sharing information was inspired by a letter from Major Gregg Softy, the Armor Squadron S-3 of the 1-1 Cavalry Regiment, 1st Armor Division, stationed in Baghdad.

Please read Major Softy's original letter, or watch an interactive slide show with photos and narration by Major Softy. Take a look at photos he has sent, like this one. Please post any thoughts, ideas, comments or concerns on the idea forum. See the list of contributors whose packages have been received to date.

Most importantly, we hope you find here the inspiration to get involved, and the information and support to take action. The future of Iraq is in its children, and they need our help.

Total Packages Received Combined Package Weight
1027 24,243 lbs.
As of 10/22/2003

Current Needs

School supplies (pencils, paper, crayons)
Hygiene supplies (soap, shampoo, etc.)
Childrens' clothing (socks, shoes, pants, jackets)
Toys and sports equipment
Teddy bears, etc.

When we began, our objective was school supplies for the children, and it continues to be our focus. However, as it was pointed out we will quickly be consumed in pencils and rulers. Many have asked what else is needed. I can tell you all there is no wrong answer. Conditions are that bad. We offer the following suggestions: clothes, shoes, toys, teddy bears, sports equipment (balls, frisbees, etc), hygiene products (soap, shampoo, moisterizer, toothbrushes, toothpaste, brushes, combs, etc) .
