1. I knew it
K'nich has no base in Ohio outside Cleveland. They just know him as "that guy who bankrupted Cleveland".

2. As a former Clevelander
I can assure you there is NO love lost between Kucinich and Howard Metzenbaum. Howard's an old money Buckeye, Dennis is a kid from the 'ethnic' side of town. Actually, where Kucinich grew up is a great neighborhood, with some of the best places to eat in Clevo!! But the two of them are VERY different people...

3. Oh, so Metzenbaum is evil because he had money?

See this is what pisses me off about DU. A lot of people cry and moan that all the Dems running are rich. Well why should we hold that against them? If I recall FDR was RICH and look what he did.

Being rich shouldn't be an issue, just like being poor shouldn't. There are good rich folks out there too.

5. I agree with you even though I support Kucinich
Nixon a lower middle class guy or JFK a rich guy I will take the latter anyday.

8. No, and I actually dated one of Howard's daughters
about 15 years ago!!!

That's NOT what I said. I simply pointed out 'why' there's no love lost between them. Howard was a GREAT SENATOR and a great guy. A liberal, in fact. He actually used a line I said to him once on the floor of the Senate!!! Something about "Ed Meese should be named the Crony General..." during his confermation...

I am NOT interested in getting into a flame war with anyone. But, as time marches on, the Dems do more harm than good with so many potential candidates in the mix. I think most would agree that there really are only maybe 3 or 4 with an 'icecubes chance in Hell' of winning the nomination, let alone the election. We face the most evil cabal ever to govern this Nation, and they'll comin' with a quarter billion dollar war chest!!!

You misunderstood my post. Hope this clears it up...

19. Glenn and Metz served TOGETHER in the Senate
Even though it was the Reagan Years, it was a grest time to be a Dem in Ohio.

BTW: Currently, only 3 counties out of 88 in Ohio can be considered Dem territory. My home town of Youngstown is the strongest, but it is also one of the most corrupt places in the world. Not just the US, I'm serious, THE WORLD!

I did talk radio there during the 2000 election cycle, maybe I'll post some outtakes if you want to get the flavor of The Mahoning Valley...

21. Celeste, too, as governor, in the 1980s....
..with Paul Leonard, the fomer "rock n roll mayor" of Dayton, as his Lt. Gov.

Rick, you might be interested that there was a "Corruption in Youngstown" website online for ahwile. That town seemed to be really mobbed up...they even fingered the DeBartolos, who developed all those shopping malls.

20. I understand...
The primaries will certainly get hotter before cooling down... And I've said it before, POLITICS IS A FULL CONTACT SPORT!

Hell, my hometown congressman is doing 8 years in the fed lockup, and our former sherriff is doing 12! That's Youngstown, Ohio. I live in Indianapolis right now... but like many other DUers, I'm seriously considering a major move soon...

7. So Metz was loaded?
I didnt know that.

I did know that he had an early political career, but was defeated via a red-baiting campaign in the late 40s or 50s.

He then was out of the picture for awhile till he got appointed, i think, to the Senate....I vaguely recall he didnt actually WIN his first election.

But man, Metzenbaum was really solid as a liberal. Probably the most liberal politician to hold statewide office in Ohio history, Ill bet.

So they both share the "same" base.

10. Metz is a SUBURBAN Clevelander
Dennis is an URBAN Clevelander.

BTW: One of Metz's sons-in-law runs one of the biggest legal service companies in the US, Hyatt Leagal Services. And, yes, he's from 'that' Hyatt family...

9. Uh huh...sure
Hmmmm, for "no base in Ohio outside Cleveland" I guess Kucinich is doing pretty damn good, having drawn financial support from every state in the country as well as DC, Guam, and Puerto Rico.

Hey bluestateguy, Do some research before you make yourself look foolish again.

15. Financial Support...Yeah Right
$1.5 is chump change for a presidential run.

Bluestateguy sounds like he was refering to Kucinich's appeal as a candidate in Ohio rather than nationwide. And Kucinich couldn't win in Ohio as a statewide candidate, he's too extreme. He'll come in at best 4th in Iowa, the same in NH and be out of the race soon afterwards.

17. Think what you will
As far as your opinion of Kucinich, you are as entitled to it.

Many, many people across the country know differently. I'll tend to go with the ones who know the facts.

The facts tell of a broad groundswell of solid support amongst Democrats, Greens, and more than a few reformed Repubs.

Keep saying he is extreme, the numbers tell a different story.

11. This is getting a little too heated
We shouldn't be fighting amongst ourselves.

I was simply providing some background on both, since I've known both of them from my time in Cleveland.

Howard is a great American. (retired)

Dennis is a fine American. (still in the fight)

How is Kucinich you told me a little about Howie? They both have to be pretty good people I would think. I dont care if the dem is rich or poor as long as he has his heart in the right place for all of us. Howard and Dennis are both great guys.

16. Oooooh... I love Metz!!
Metzenbaum is a political role model of mine, he's a wonderful, charitable man, decent to the core. I was so proud to have him as my Senator for so many years.

I'm undecided, but if Metz is endorsing Dean, I can honestly say that really motivates makes to take another long look at him.

Honest in Ohio,
Jennifer :-)

18. Howard has ALWAYS been a stand-up guy
Even though he is a 'monied' individual, he ALWAYS sticks up for the little guy! I especially remember his fighting AGAINST Reagan's Telecom Act, the one that opened the floodgates for beasts like Rupert's Fauz Empire and Clear Channel!!!

When not in Washington, you could often find Howard working in his front yard!!!
