no shit, there are no funny republicans that i know of, and rush don't count. they hate self deprecating humor, or humor of any kind, none of them know how to crack jokes, and they are just generally joyless and humorless.

pitiful humorless fucks. ha.

righteous, smug, irrationally angry, and deeply deprive/depraved sex lives.

Actually, they have none, and that's why they're so TENSE all the time.

3. I believe that it is true that there is a connection between
humor and intelligence. Humor uses the most highly refined aspects of intelligence - an ability to quickly quantify and analyze differences and describe those differences in a way which amuses without alienating and in a way which unifies.

6. I find all republicans to be funny, well in their actions...
Though it is true none of them know how to take a joke, that's why they want to shut down parody sites such as whitehouse.org, which Cheney did try to sue a couple of years back, or other types of parody. They are big crybabies.

7. It's because Conservatives have no tolerance for or.....
understanding of contradiction and ambiguity. Most humor is rooted in those things. They confuse humor with meanness or smugness.

Conservatives also don't realize how ridiculous they are. They're a goldmine of material. Who can blame us for taking advantage?

11. Humor is a difficult art to get a handle on. Pukes don't get art.
It's not mere coincidence that so many artists are liberals. The arts are the ultimate expressions of intelligence, and they threaten the egos of Conservatives.

Think of the Republican artists. Anything there? Sonny Bono? Trent Lott? No. John Lennon. Green Day.

13. What they find funny is either juvenile
or mean spirited. I was thinking yesterday about a pix that was posted here at DU around Thanksgiving of a boy in Texas who had a sign he was proudly holding up with Cindy Sheehan's face on a turkey. He had his gun and was grinning over his "kill". That's the kind of humor conservatives love. Mean spirited and ugly.
And his parents will "have no idea" why their son turns out to be a bully who's in trouble at school. Must be those other kids corrupting him. Or TV.
Ann Coulter makes "jokes" all the time. About the inferiority of women (conservatives lap that up). Or how liberals should either be imprisoned or tortured.
So. If that makes you laugh, you just might be a wingnut.

17. Social awareness.
Edited on Thu Dec-22-05 09:25 PM by Gregorian
Humor is often exaggerating something that is unconscious. Taking something small, that people don't pay much attention to, and masquerading it for all to see.

For those of us who are aware, Iraq is real, it's happening, and it's very painful. For those who are typical Republicans, Iraq is "over there"; Someone else's problem. It doesn't count. This is what I call the "out of sight/ out of mind" syndrome.

I have to wonder what the ratio of Dems to Repubs is when it comes to inventions. Because humor is very much like inventing. It's that "OH, why didn't I see that" factor that is contained in both humor and inventing.

I have spent the last two years fully engrossed in studying humor. I spend my days on DU and on a very amazing website of brilliant people who have wit like I've only seen on the Daily Show. I don't have humor, but I appreciate it.

Of course this is all conjecture. In fact, I might even be funny, but I just don't know it. I would be funny if I had the social experience that the funny people have.

I honestly think most Republicans grow up in strict patriarchial, almost two dimentional, families.

19. Yes, I agree. It's something like abstract thinking that is lacking
in most repubs I know.

For example, if they've never been poor, they have NO ability to empathize with the poor or their plight.

It's like they can't think in an absract way--they can't 'walk a mile in someone else's shoes' so to speak. It has to be concrete with them. If they fall on hard times, then AND ONLY THEN do they empathize.

I've decided it's may be an IQ thing. The ability to think in the abstract is.

20. Bob Dole can be pretty funny and McCain occaisionally gets a good one
Dole has that nasty, twist the knife wit. It's not nice but it can be funny.

As for McCain one of my favorites was when, during his presidential campeign, he was asked who his favorite band was, quickly responded "9 Inch Nails"

This immediately caused Alan Keyes to denounce him for promoting a band which was destroying the fabric of America.

23. legacy of Calvinism and Puritans
Neither group had any sense of humor and took themselves too seriously. The Rs suffer from same self-righteousness and are as equally uptight.

There are two jokes that work for all three groups:

Q: Why do ___ (usually Southern Baptists) never have sex standing up?
A: Because someone might think they are dancing.

Q: Why do ___ always look sour and act mean?
A: Because they know that someone, somewhere is having fun, and they can't stand it. (I think original is by H.L. Mencken)

26. How about this?
After a variety of political prisoners entered the room, O'Brien entered the room. Winston Smith said, "They've got you too!"

Then O'Brien said, "They got me a long time ago."

See? O'Brien was funny. Now, I know that you're going to quibble with me and say that technically O'Brien wasn't a Republican. Technically, he didn't exist, so we should talk about George Orwell. I'm pretty sure that Ann Coulter did some research that proves that George Orwell was a Republican.

27. There's one Republican in my circle of friends
She never gets our jokes and appears incapable of discerning sarcasm or irony. She takes EVERYTHING literally and personally. She actually gets upset when we make fun of Chimpy in her presence. Her lip starts quivering and everything. It's weird. People talked smack about John Kerry in front of me during the election all the time and it never hurt my feelings. I don't know if she's representative of the majority of Republicans but I'm starting to suspect she is. All the freeps who call into Washington Journal in the morning seem like that too. Always overwrought and overly emotional. It's all about their feelings.

I ignored the FISA
I took a little risk
Send lawyers, guns and money

Between Iraq and a hard place
And I'm down on my luck

2) He sees you when you're sleeping:

He sees you when you're sleeping
He knows when you're awake
Dubya knows if you've been bad or good
So you better be good for goodness sake..

Oh you better not pout
You better not cry
You better not shout
I'm telling you why
Dubya Claus is coming to town...

He's makin' a list
He's checkin' it twice
He's gonna find out who's naughty or nice..
Dubya Claus is comin' to town...

Hey everybody,

I just figured out that George Bush must be Santa Claus...

NO WONDER BILL O'REILLY'S BEEN SO WORRIED ABOUT THE WAR ON CHRISTMAS!

As we all know Santa knows if you've been bad or good...
We just found out Dubya's watching us all to see if we've been "naughty" or "nice"...

..and Santa doesn't need a warrant to listen in either...

Santa - Uses elves to do his dirty work.
Dubya - Uses NSA.

Santa - helped by Mrs. Claus
Dubya - helped by Condaleeza Rice

Santa only works about 1 day a year...
Dubya... SAME...

Santa - Reindeer powered sleigh flies him all over the world in one night..
Dubya - AIR FORCE ONE...

Santa - Red Suit..
Dubya - FLIGHT SUIT...

Santa's laugh - Ho Ho Ho...
Dubya's laugh - Heh Heh Heh

Santa - Brings you presents if you've been good.
Dubya - Brings Pioneers and Rangers "presents" for good campaign donations.

Santa - Brings you switches if you've been bad..
Dubya - USES the switches if you've been "bad"...

Finally...that undisclosed location that Dick Cheney's been hiding out in so much...

THE NORTH POLE...

30. You know what it is, it's that sense of
superiority that gives them a lack of humor. To have any kind of sense of humor at all the first thing you need to do is to be able to laugh at yourself. When you think you're superior to everyone else there is no reason to laugh at yourself.
