Should Kerry say something about NYT withholding spy story b4 election?
One argument the Repubs are pulling out to avoid impeachment is the “America voted for it” so we have to accept it… what a crock. Bush “asked” the New York Times to withhold the information- the election would have been dramatically different if this info had come out in 2004… perhaps the Dems would have been able to put up a real candidate, instead of being tricked into accepting lay-down-and-roll-over Kerry. He and Marvin had better things to do.

If Kerry were for real, he would be raising hell that this information was withheld before the election, not withheld to protect us, but to protect Bush from bad PR in an election year. That is not acceptable, and any real oppostion candidate would be pointing this out. Since Kerry doesn’t, he’s either too lazy, or literally complicit in helping BushCo in this blatant power grab.

1. I believe Bush asked for it to be witheld much more recently
and that the intent was to have it reported after the 2006 elections

3. If I remember right, Bushco asked to have
it withheld when it was first written. I think it's in the article itself.

5. People should say it for him
Edited on Thu Dec-22-05 05:50 PM by kenny blankenship
From him it sounds like sour grapes.

But then what should we expect? He's screwed because he's a Democrat and Democrats act like they don't know each other, just as they run from the epithet of liberal and just like they deny knowledge of their own party's platform and historical positions.

I don't think it's accurate to speak of a Democratic Party anymore. I think that's done and in the past.

If John Kerry was a Republican there would be ten other elected officials, all close to his stature in his party, all of them going 'round in the media this week and next raising Holy Hell about how the Times favored Kerry's opponent with its editorial lobotomizing of the news. They'd be screaming about how the Times deliberately hid information from its readers and voters. Other top Republicans would do this so he wouldn't have to do it himself, appearing to be a sore loser with a grudge against the media. They'd have his back, and all the lesser lights of the party would repeat the same thing on radio talk shows ad nauseum, getting pundits and hosts to repeat their angle on the news for them so the whole world could repeat the story in its sleep.

Instead the story slips past the nation's ears unheard, and Senator Kerry is left to twist slowly in the wind. That's how Democrats do things and no fucking wonder they have no power.

6. Did anybody hear him yesterday???
I don't remember what all he said but he was all over the spying, the Florida vote machines, and a bunch of other stuff. Why in the hell doesn't anybody EVER rally around him for everything that he is doing instead of hunt high and low for the one thing that he hasn't done. It's incredible.

12. Why should we even have the time to ask?
Why have Democrats learned to expect so little from their so-called leaders?

I heard Kerry yesterday on Schultz. He called Bush's spying a mistake and election fraud inappropriate. Don't count on Kerry to stand up for you.

18. Call me what you like -- Let me quote your post:
"He called Bush's spying a mistake and election fraud inappropriate."

Yes, Kerry said the both words "mistake" and "Inappropriate." at some point during the interview.

But he did in NO WAY trivialize Bush's spying or our right to vote in the way your summary patently suggests.

That is willful and dreadful misinterpretation.

Call me a liar all you like. Those that listen to the interview will understand who is credible.

20. Okay, thank you for admitting to lying about the quotes
which I didn't even identify as quotes. I must have a pretty good memory to recall the exact words he used, and the exact contexts in which he used them, without even having to go back and listen. I wonder how I was able to get it so right while you, who posted a link to the interview, got it exactly wrong.

Your amended position is that I trivialized Kerry’s remarks by using his words. It sounds like you went back and listened again. Give me the strong words. Give me your evidence of “willful and dreadful misinterpretation,” or just admit that you’ve again been exposed as a liar.

What is John Kerry doing to stand up for you? Did he call for impeachment? Did he call for censure? Did he call for investigations? What stand did he take? Here's your chance to set the record straight.

My orig reply to you "Did you graduate from the Karl Rove school of misquoting and willful misinterpretation?"

My position stands -- I have "amended" nothing. For whatever reason, you used those Rovian tactics of willful misinterpretation to come up w a BS summary which suggested that Kerry trivialized our right to vote and George Bush's spying. He did neither. No amount of bizarre literalism, schoolyard bullying tactics, or obsfucation on your part will impress or convince reasonable people who heard Schultz's interview w Kerry otherwise.

As to what John Kerry has done to stand up for us, you have the internets, you can google for specifics regarding what he is doing w lawsuits in Ohio and what he been doing regarding voting reform.

But here is a handy dandy quick list in reverse chronological order of some of the things he has been involved in since Jan 04

16. No. But it does highlight the need
For the DNC to become the media. If nothing else they could find stuff out and leak it to other media outlets to report it.

19. He said "Nixon" and "Diebold" yesterday and talked of his lawsuits
I doubt he's too lazy or complicit just because he's not talking about the exact topic this person wants him to talk about in the exact way or at the exact time he wants it said.

24. Actually Kerry needs to make a national address
and ask people why they support torture and one party rule. Explain to them how the MSM held on to a story that could have changed an election. Explain how torture is legal in the eyes of Cheney, even domestic torture.

26. If Kerry does talk about that, the right-wing spin will
be easy for them to write:

John Kerry is blaming the New York Times for his defeat! Blaming a liberal paper! This is unbelievable. Conservatives believe in personal responsibility.
