Send your "American Girl" stuff back. Mattel caved to the nut-jobs.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/12/21/eveningnews/main1156552.shtml

American Girl, which just launched its first ever major ad campaign in its 20-year history, released a statement saying it is "profoundly disappointed that certain groups have chosen to misconstrue American Girl's purely altruistic efforts."

Also Mattel, the maker of the doll has decided it will not renew its partnership with Girls Inc. which runs out this year.

-----

Girls Inc. is the company that supports women in poverty, supports Roe v. Wade, etc.

Edited to show Mattel caved--they make American Girl.

3. Well, let's see.
Mattel makes American Girl dolls and accessories.

Mattel has decided not to renew it's partnership with Girls Inc for American Girl dolls.

Girls Inc. is the company that the nut-jobs were protesting.

Therefore, the nut-jobs win. They get rid of the Girls Inc. affiliation with American Girl dolls.

9. The Pleasant Company will just partner with someone else
to make the dolls and accessories. If you have ever been to one of the American Girl stores, you would be stunned to see how amazingly lucrative they are.

17. Mattel owns the rights to all American Girl merchandise
The Pleasant Company sold to them.

18. I know. My point was that the Pleasant Company isn't
going to just go away. If Mattel refuses to continue to contract with them, I am sure their lawyers will pursue other options.

5. It sounds like Mattel caved.
The way I read it, Mattel caved. It sounds like American Girls doesn't have a say in the matter. Now, Mattel also makes Barbie. Is that the next target? We all know how Barbie is corrupting young girls with her tiny waist and those big boobs. And what has been going on between Barbie and Ken all these years? No one is going to tell me Barbie is a virgin! Wait, I forgot, Ken looks like a girl without his pants. Oh, no, Ken is really a girl....that means, that means, oh right!!!

American Girl should move elsewhere.

15. I think they will.
Pleasant Company is far too lucrative to stop producing the American Girl Doll franchise.

You would be shocked if you went to their NYC store. I was there at Thanksgiving and it was so crowded you couldn't move. And the prices! OMG. Out of this world. We had brunch for my niece to celebrate her birthday and it was $32 a person!!! Including the three year old!!! It was unreal.

I was happy to take my daughters so that they could see it just once, but I don't have any intention of returning anytime soon.

13. I wish American Girl would ditch Mattel.

They may be under contract with them, however.
