they finally let the nun go who put her blood on a missile silo in protest
of the imminent Iraq war.

DANBURY, Conn. Dec 22, 2005 — A pacifist nun convicted of defacing a Colorado missile silo in 2002 was released Thursday from federal prison.

Platte, along with sisters Jackie Hudson and Carol Gilbert, were arrested in October 2002 after they allegedly cut a chain link fence surrounding a Minuteman III missile silo in northern Colorado. The nuns then used baby bottles to dispense their own blood in the shape of a cross on the silo.

Air Force security quickly left training exercises to respond, arriving at the site in several armored vehicles. The three nuns, who appeared to be praying and singing, announced they were peaceful and surrendered, according to court documents.

Hudson, Gilbert and Platte were convicted on charges of obstructing national defense and damaging government property. They received prison sentences of 30 months, 33 months and 41 months respectively. Hudson and Gilbert have been released.

1. They had every right to hold her.
We're talking about national defense, here. All that blood on the silo could have prevented the missile from lifting off and righteously slaying a hundred-thousand of the evil enemy. She could have doomed us all.

4. No, you have it all wrong
If the blood was on the missile, they would have had to have it tested for AIDS before firing, otherwise, all those hit by the missile could get AIDS and horrible lawsuits would ensue . . .

:sarcasm:

2. Is this who Bushler protects us from with his warrantless domestic spying?
Put nuns on the TIA list.

7. Merry Christmas, Sister Ardeth!
Ardeth was a good friend of my mom's and, to boot, a former city councilperson here in Saginaw. I understand very well why she and sisters Carol (who I also know quite well) and Jackie (who I don't) do this -- they've been protesting weapons of mass murder since Wurtsmith AFB was open -- say, the early 70s.
They've probably spent nearly as much time in prison as not these past twenty years and use their time behind bars ministering to fellow inmates about Christ's teachings -- especially about the Beatitudes. I expect they'll both be arrested again before too long -- the weapons haven't gone anywhere, so they'll certainly be back for another go-round.
Anyhow, I'm glad Sister Ardeth is out in time for Christmas. I'd sure be pleased if she found some time to get back to Saginaw, where she and Carol are much loved and respected -- even by those who don't necessarily agree with their actions. Our door is open and they'd be welcome guests.
