Usual republican cant:"We want strict constructionists on the bench!"
Yeah, sure you do. You want the Constitution, unvarnished, not full of frou-frou, a Real Man's Constitution. You republicans are so no-nonsense. It makes me swoon, it really does. None of these prissy "activist judges" for you!

From Laura Rozen's War and Piece blog:

"Update: A reader writes in with a good point:

I'm surprised that no one, not even my conservative friends, has noted that President Bush's discovery of an implied right to conduct warrentless searches in Article II of the Constitution is completely inconsistent with his oft-repeated vow to only appoint strict constructionists to the federal bench. It is intellectually dishonest, to say the least, that President Bush believes that the judiciary is confined to the literal meaning of words when it interprets the Constitution, but the executive branch is allowed to divine implied rights when it interprets the same document. Indeed, there is no rational way to reconcile the two positions - other than as a naked grab for power by the executive branch."

Well, *I* noticed! I remember thinking, when I first heard a few days ago that the prethident was now inventing laws, that that wasn't a very "strict constructionist" thing to do.

The repukes say they will fight tooth and nail against "activist judges" (never mind that this is actually a lie, since they don't mind it if the judges are "activist" in favor of THEIR pet causes); but the repukes have now given us an "ACTIVIST PRESIDENT."

1. A real strict constructionist
would have * thrown in jail for giving the finger to the constitution. I wonder if the irony will be lost on the wackos who always blather about this? No, really I don't.

2. The irony fairies have had a long hard work out since 2000...
every time I bring up yet another irony of this administration and wonder why they don't get it, my husband says "Honey, I keep telling you, irony is lost on the stupid!";)

3. Let's just give him over to Strip Search Sammy for about an hour.
Strip Search Sammy would know how to deal with the miscreant!

(Oh, wait... I forgot... Strip Search Sammy is just the kind of guy who LOVES warrantless searches.)

5. Yeah, they want strict constructionist...
people who believe that the men who are created equally are white, male landowners. They believe blacks should count as 3/5 a person. Hell, they probably want to bring slavery back, too.

6. LOL, I know you're kidding, at least, sort of, when you say they
probably want to bring slavery back. But I swear, looking at the antics of these foul criminal republicans, I really begin to believe that that is EXACTLY what they would like!

7. Well, i really think they do
want to bring back slavery. They want us (all of us) to be slaves to the corporate machine. It is the 1920's all over again. They just have a delusion that THIS time the 20's won't bring on the 30's.
