Does "PayPal" discriminate against Liberal Websites?
For two days I've tried to donate to Josh Marshall (so he can hire two reporters to help him) and Digby (Hullabaloo)'s Website.

Both sites force me into "PayPal." I've spend too much time entering information...over and over and over and over...and in the end.."PayPal" keeps asking me to go back.

As a Result...I haven't been able to Donate to either Josh or Digby because their "PayPal Site" doesn't seem to work. Being busy ...I don't have alot of time to keep "entering and re-entering" and "entering and re-entering" information which is accurate the FIRST TIME!

WTF :wtf: is wrong with these "PayPal Sites?" I NEVER HAVE A PROBLEM donating to DU...but can't seem to donate to two other Web Sites????

1. I haven't had problems with PayPal
Edited on Tue Dec-20-05 07:41 PM by high density
In fact when I buy stuff with PayPal usually the only thing I have to enter is my email address and password, and then click once to make my purchase.

What do you mean by "asking me to go back?" I signed up for PayPal years ago, so I don't remember what that process was like. I know it did involve them mailing me something to verify my mailing address. They also want me to register a bank account with them, but I keep ignoring those requests since it's info they don't need to know.

13. I've entered ALL MY INFO Accurately over and over and over...and still
"PayPal" seems to say I've done something wrong and won't process my order.

I've ordered flowers and food and books and whatever from all kinds of Mainstream Websites for years....but not used PayPal because the Mainstream sites link me immediately/directly to my "payment of choice" and I never have a problem entering my Name/Address/Visa/and E-Mail and Phone.

But...I can't get my donations to go through for Josh Marshall or Digby? I've kept reloading my info...which is the SAME as what I've just done with Online Christmas Orders for my family...but only Josh and Digy PayPAL refuse to allow my donations by throwing me back saying I haven't given all the info they need..when I've entered and entered and entered.

There's something wrong here..

22. Specifically what does the error say?
It should tell you what you haven't entered with a little red star by the box, usually. Weird.

Also, if it doesn't seem to like your credit card number try giving them another one. I have a credit card that consistently gets rejected. Something weird in the number-- it just doesn't validate.

23. I don't have a "screen shot" but it sends me back to red asterisks and
asks me to re-enter what's red asterisks. I do that and it keep sending me back to the same "fill in blanks."

As I said...those are the only two sites I've EVER had a problem with...and I can't seem to resolve it. Look...I only have one name and one Visa account and I keep having to type in the same info over and over when I've done dozens of internet transactions with my Credit Card and never had a problem on other sites?

28. Sounds like a browser-related issue
I know sometimes Safari will do what your describing, but if I fill in the same form with Firefox, everything works fine. Or maybe it's the other way around? You can always try donating to my site to find out (link below)!

2. Have you previously donated to DU using PayPal?
Do you have a PayPal account?

I've never had a problem with any donations through PayPal. You don't say exactly what the error you're getting is, but I'd suspect it's user error rather than discrimination on the part of PayPal. After all, PayPal is just in it to make money. :D

17. I've always skipped the "PayPal" thing on DU and gone to the other
side where my "credit card" seemed to be all I needed. I've NEVER HAD A PROBLEM DONATING TO DU....but to my knowledge DU has a choice of PayPal or your regular "Credit Card."

 All I know is that when I click on "Visa" on Marshall or Digby's sites to donate...it seems to throw me into "PayPal" and then keep rejecting my input of info...which is no different from what I recently gave to DU or have given to them for the past Six Years...and yet DU never gives me a problem?

I have to admit I don't order a huge lot of stuff on the Internet..but it's been enough that I can understand that something WEIRD is going on here!

5. PAYPAL JUST DISCRIMINATES
Against almost everyone! All PAYPAL considers is covering PAYPAL ASS!
I used to be paranoid, but now, I am just resigned! Once you get some age on you, the patience will soon come along. Our day will come!
What do you want to do? You can run your blood pressure up, and die early, or you can calm down, and get smarter, and have some hope, of actually making some kind of difference!

8. Duh, they're a business.
All ANY corporation considers is covering their own ass and making money. Unless it's specifically in their charter that they're doing business ethically, and even then, I'd be suspicious.

10. Avoid Paypal Through Paypal
I don't like their accounts either...they're trying to force themselves to be the "official" money of the internet.

On their pay page, you should be able to submit payment with a card without having to be a Paypal member. I used to have an account through them and my spam mail and other crap dramatically increased and I started getting "little reminders" from them all the time. I now just use them only when I have to.

I wish there was another system for websites to use other than Paypal...it's sure not my pal.

15. PayPal is dangerous, never give them any account numbers! They stole
$77 from me and denied it when I questioned them, but my bank says they did indeed get the money. PayPal is effectively acting as a bank, yet it is not a bank so it is not subject to banking rules and regulations. See www.paypalsucks.com for more horror stories.

20. Thanks...I'll check link out. Why would Liberal Bloggers use them if they
can't get donations..because the folks trying to donate are turned off by being constantly rejected by the "PayPal Site?"

Doesn't make sense...but that's my experience. I'm just going to write a check and post it to Marshall and Digby since it doesn't work otherwise.

Sad thing is...How many other donors to Liberal Websites have given up like me...when they can't seem to process information like 'FTC.COM, 1-800-Flowers.Com, Amazon.Com, Critics Choice Movies.com, and the other sites that I have NO PROBLEM WITH when I ORDER?

30. PayPal is sadly, the only solution if you don't have a merchant account...
...from a bank to accept credit card payments independently. You have to use a third-party service such as PayPal and the others (ccbill, etc.) but they all charge too high of a percentage, except for PayPal, which charges approximately the same as a regular credit-card processing company. But PayPal has become fraught with hazards including fraud, etc. Just read through some of the horror stories at paypalsucks.com and it will scare you away from ever using PayPal. And PayPal continues to swallow up any competitors that spring up, so they are the 800-pound gorilla at the moment. I got burned by them this summer, only for $77 but that was enough to scare me away from them.

25. Ahhh...I'm a Netscape user...could that be the problem with PP?
I haven't upgraded my IE since about four years...and I don't want to do that big a download with my "Dial Up" just to use "PP" when I guess I can still write a check.

I'm used to sites that will take my credit card without fuss that arent' PayPal. Why do sites even use PP if there are so many problems.

31. When in doubt or having problems,
place your order over the phone. I forgot I used to distrust the internet and would only call 800 numbers, not that I did it often.
For some reason, I feel more confident. No, it's more convenient.
