Houston Chronicle- Letter/Editor FROM Halliburton -UNBELIEVABLE
Edited on Mon Oct-20-03 10:12 PM by Avalon Sparks
I couldn't believe it when I read this letter to the editor in the Houston Chronicle today - I thought I was reading The Onion

Gratitude due Halliburton

Halliburton has been in the press under critical scrutiny of late.

The fine way Halliburton is meeting the need of providing a support system in a timely manner is something to think about.

There was a reason when the Iraq war began that the Department of Defense asked Halliburton to implement its wartime emergency plan that was approved under the existing and competitively bid contract.

Halliburton is uniquely qualified to serve the Armed Services.

Gratitude and appreciation are in order.

Arvadia Oglesby, law department, Halliburton, Houston

Unfreaking Believable! Yeah the reason is Dick Cheney! They want us to thank them for sucking up all our tax dollars.

Ooops - here's the link:

2. OMG, is this a joke?
That letter appears to have been written by a twelve year-old (no offence to the young children on this forum). It HAS to be a prank or a satirical letter.

4. Billions of dollars in contracts isn't enough thanks?
They want "gratitude and appreciation" now?

5. My goodness..
..the more I look at the letter, the more it seems like an ingenious piece of satirical hilarity. I'm 96.2% sure it's not real.

Can you imagine Halliburton actually writing a letter like this? Unreal! They want to stay in the background as much as possible--this joke of a letter would only provoke backlash and anger (which is exactly why the person behind it wrote it!).

Oh, she can go fuck herself. What a horribly arrogant thing to say.

Fuck you Arvadia Oglesby, and fuck you Halliburton. Bunch of fucking parasites.

9. Arvadia Oglesby??
Arvadia Oglesby??
That name sounds very, very fake.
No one outside of a character in a Harry Potter book is named Arvadia Oglesby.

12. The papers verify identity before printing a letter to the editor.
That's one of the conditions for publication.

13. You sure?
Not the major papor in my city!
They directly say that a name, phone number and address must be included with any letter to be considered for publication--yet I've already gotten TWO letters published (using a fake name at that!) by sending the letters through e-mail.

14. Yup, that's the policy...
I'd be surprised if they didn't verify it, especially if they're claiming to be of counsel to Halliburton.

16. I'm sure you could use any name...
Just give them a phone number they can reach you at...

I've had a couple letters published and they never asked for my Driver's License or anything.

15. yeah that's the tip off
this is (was meant as) satire...did this paper publish it as legitimate? If so, they did not make a confirmation call to "Arvadia"...the H-C really should apologize for publishing it as a real letter. They should start with "We are fucking gullible shmucks" and take it from there.
OTOH!!!!! IF....if this is real.....I want to break some Halliburton skulls till the oil spills out.

19. Just thought of something~
If it is a fake letter, what if Halliburton responds? Something like this:

We apologize for the letter that seemingly was written by an employee from our Legal department at Halliburton. Arvadia Oglesby is not, nor ever has been under our employment. Furthermore, you can keep your gratitude and appreciation to yourself, just keep on forking over your tax dollars.

Greedy Evil Halliburton CEO
