A racist really ticked me off today
I was playing chess online at shockwave and this guy is talking about how asians are superior to whites and blacks because they get higher IQ scores.

He felt he was a better player because he was asian. I pointed out that the russians dominate chess but he said they are closing fast on them.

I discussed at length each person's ability, what I think of IQ tests in general, and so. No matter how much I talked to him it came back to he believed that asians were smarter than all other races in general.

It started to tick me off. When I mentioned science, the atom bomb, inventions made outside the asian realm he just blew it off as dumb and called my wife a whore :)

He felt black people were the worst at chess and other things requiring intelligence in general. He kept referring me to 'the web'.

Such people infuriate me. I don't care what color/race/faith a person is - humans are humans and we are all in this damn thing together. Why do so many have to divide and try to conquer??

I dunno, still ticked.....

2. He's just making up for having a short penis...
(cue laugh track at racist comment to combat racist comment)

Seriously though, he may be good at chess but it sounds likely that it's because that's the only area he's been devoting and level of thought to. Sounds like another Bobby Fisher(sp?) in the making.

7. Here's a mantra for you:
Everytime you run into someone like that, you need to keep telling yourself:

"This is just some asshole on the Internet... This is just some asshole on the Internet... This is just some asshole on the Internet... This is just some asshole on the Internet...This is just some asshole on the Internet... "

17. It can be, but mostly people are just concentrating on playing the game.
I guess it depends on how fast-paced the game is and whether or not the server will allow racist comments, among other things. I tend to play games that are fast-paced. There isn't much time to type.

After 9-11 it was pretty ugly out there in gameland. I couldn't believe all the "raghead" and "sand-nigger" comments. Disgusting.

5. A Commodore 64 can kick my ass at chess,
does that make 25 year old computers intellectually superior to 36 year old white guys?

Sargon was pretty good - it didn't have much trouble whooping my 11-year-old ass at the time :)

15. Blast from the past
Wow - there's a blast from the past - the TRaSh-80 was the first computer I ever got to play with - 25 (!) years ago, at a local college that offered a afternoon program in computers for gifted & talented elementary school kids. That class changed my life, although I didn't know it at the time.

10. Such arguments prove his own stupidity.
If a person needs to denigrate an entire group of people in order to feel good about himself, he's got more problems than you can help him with.

19. That's just it. No one can solve another person's problems.
People have to learn for themselves and many are way too stubborn.

14. You should have said that you were asian then.
And then ask him to tell you why you were so superior to him.

16. What an idiot
As Bob Lassiter once said after a racist caller:

"Can you believe these people actually feel they're superior to anybody?"

18. There are different kinds of intelligence.
I excel in language, art and music, but suck at mathematics and athletics. Just because some guy is great at chess doesn't make him Einstein. I can probably sing and draw better than he can. So what if I don't give a shit about moving carved game pieces around a checkered board? It seems to me that the racists and misogynists have been able to decide which kinds of "intelligence" matter. Art and music are pretty low on their list because most racists and misogynists lack imagination and creativity. That's just a personal observation. In order to make up for their lack of any real talent, they have to make other things matter...like how much money they make.

20. I teach gifted kids and I hear that all the time
(Asians have higher IQ's, etc.)

Now, I don't hear it quite as stridently as you did. But I play online poker and have been called a Mexican whore, which is interesting as I am a white grandmother.

There will always be racists, and there will always be idiots online because they are safely on the otherside of that screen. I know because I've tried to get at them but they always disappear!

21. That's what these racist "intellectuals" like "Dr." Lynn say
I'm not too sure about how they come up with these IQ scores. If IQ exists, I bet my bottom dollar that it correlates with wealth. Wealthier individuals probably have higher IQ. It has to do with the environment, not inherent IQ, as these racists would want you to believe. Sure, Asians are a successful minority in the United States, but comparing IQ of rich folks with poor folks does not tell us much about anything.
As for online games, yes they're populated by plenty of racists. The language they use is crude for sure.
