Your tax dollars at work: Terrorist babies banned from flights
US no-fly list vexes travelers from babies on up

By Caroline Drees, Security Correspondent

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Sarah Zapolsky was checking in for a flight to Italy when she discovered her 9-month-old son's name was on the United States' "no-fly" list of suspected terrorists.

"We pointed down to the stroller, and he sat there and gurgled," Zapolsky said, recalling the incident at Dulles International Airport outside Washington in July. "The desk agent started laughing. ... She couldn't print us out a boarding pass because he's on the no-fly list."

Zapolsky, who did not want her son's name made public, said she was initially amused by the mix-up. "But when I found out you can't actually get off the list, I started to get a bit annoyed."

Zapolsky isn't alone.

1. There's a guy at work with this problem...
He's an ATC, so he's been investigated by the FBI and holds a Secret security clearance. Apparently, he's also on the no-fly list.

Methinks the list has some issues...

3. A friend of my family is on the list
He was in the Weathermen and the SDS back in the 60s, although he never personally did anything violent. He's now in his 60s and a social worker, but he goes through hell when he tries to fly. He prefers to drive most places.

5. Was reading some posts months ago on a progressive 'zine site.
Amazed how many just plain folks found themselves on that list. One guy's daughter pointed out the only thing they all had in common was a subscription to that particular magazine, which has a long and honorable history. But, no, they aren't spying on Americans for political reasons...

6. Scary.
But we have nothing to fear from the Patriot Act if we've not done anything wrong...... :puke:

The guy I was talking about hasn't marched or demonstrated or anything for probably 30 years, yet he still gets hassled when he tries to fly.

I'm scared every time I get on a plane that they're going to detain me for some reason, even though I have no criminal record and the worst crime I've committed is shoplifting an eyeliner in the 10th grade.

8. My Husband's On the List!
When we were going on vacation this past August, he was told that he was on the No-Fly list! He's got a very common name, though, so we figured that it was just a matter of some terrorist giving a common name instead of his real one.
