Kerry Says Case for Impeachment Solid, then Flip-Flops and Wriggles
Submitted by davidswanson on Thu, 2005-12-15 16:22. Activism
And the Hotline reports on comments by John Kerry:

MA. Sen. John Kerry said last night that if Dems retake the House, there's a "solid case" to bring "articles of impeachment" against President Bush for allegedly misleading the country about pre-war intelligence, according to several Dems who attended.

Kerry was speaking at a holiday party for alumni of his WH '04 bid.

About 100 campaign vets gathered at Finn McCool's bar in D.C. to hear him.
In a short speech, Kerry praised Dems who were working on Senate and House
campaigns, and then said, according to one listener: "If we take back the
House, there's a solid case to bring articles of impeachment against this
president." Another listener heard a slight variation: "If we win back the
House, I think we have a pretty solid case to bring articles of
impeachment against this President." Kerry then quickly added, according to several in
the audience, "Don't tell anyone I said that."
***********
This is what you expect of corporate 'hos who do not want to rock the boat, who feel only slight adjustments are necessary. Feel free to tell everyone Tom called Kerry a whore of corporate America.

However, if enough people take the lead, eventually even the likes of Kerry will follow. On to the streets...

5. Bullshit. It was a fucking joke.
Wade: "Is it really a story that, with a smile on his face and to ensuing
laughter
, at a Christmas party for his hardest working troops who are
still
working to win in 2006, a Democrat joked about why these diehard Democrats
needed to keep dreaming of a Democratic Congress? Impeachment jokes in
Washington are as old as Don Rumsfeld and as funny as Dick Cheney is
gruff.

Only the truly humorless would say bah humbug to the rarest of partisan
red
meat." Wade said Kerry often asks this question: "How are the same
Republicans who tried to impeach a President over whether he misled a
nation about an affair going to pretend it does not matter if the
Administration intentionally misled the country into war?" More Wade:
"Good
luck finding a Democrat in America who disagrees..."

16. OK. Many of us feel Bush lied, and as a result, many died for no
good reason. That is not a joke, and we take this very seriously. We believe Bush is criminally liable.

Many of us protested when Congress voted to give Bush (of all people) authority to take military action, and knew that Bush would use it to disastrous results. We knew that Iraq posed no threat, in fact, we believed it is the US policies under Bush and the support of Congress that posed a continuing threat to the people of Iraq and the rest of the people of the Middle East.

I am sorry if i fail to see the humor in Kerry's statement.

The families of 2,100+ US citizens and well over 30,000 Iraqis may also fail to see the joke here, either.

You are trying to see how best to twist someone's words into what you want to hear.
Good one.

What part of my post stated I don't want to see bush* impeached?
As another poster stated, there is much truth in humor. The Senator put the "I" word out there. That ain't nothing, even if it wasn't for the general public. As David Wade said, it's de rigueur in Washington to make impeachment jokes.
And what, exactly, in either my or the Senator's words are you unhappy with? Or is it just general misery?

Kerry's?

Can you even NAME one lawmaker who has investigated and exposed more government corruption than John Kerry has over the last 35 years?

You don't even know what the fock you're talking about with your childish attack on Kerry as a corporate whore.

You never knew that it has been Kerry advocating for Public Financing of campaigns since 1985 and who wrote the Clean Elections bill with Wellstone?

You didn't know that Kerry worked for 10 years to help craft the Kyoto Protocol that corporate America was AGAINST.

I swear, some of you say anything because you think it sounds cool and will be accepted by other cool kids.

Guess what - Ignorance ISN'T cool.

But, of course, this is being a corporate whore for some people here .

27. There's nothing funny about impeaching Bush.
Clinton was impeached for lying about sex. Meanwhile Bush*t isn't being impeached for lying that resulted in the deaths of thousands of our people, deaths of countless Iraqis, and destroyed the American economy everyone except the very rich. Scary situation. Not funny. This man needs to be impeached.

34. I've learned not to take myself too seriously,
even though I act on my convictions with great seriousness and concern. I expect that's the case with Sen. Kerry. I have no reason to believe any different. I'll at least not draw my conclusions about the senator from offhand comments exploited by his critics for their own edification. I'm more than satisfied by an examination of the senator's record of service, of his commitment to the values and ideals that I fight for every day.

He has made similar atatements in serious venues, as well. He uses it to point out the hypocrisy of the GOP.

26. Bottom Line question-- Why isn't Kerry calling for impeachment?
Isn't impeachment a prudent policy to advocate for a responsible civil servant, given the severity of Bush's crimes?

It would seem even a modest approach.

So we just wait until 2008? Can the world stand that?

At least, he could, being in the House.

The answer is simple. Right now, all we can do is ask for investigations, which is what Kerry is doing.

at every possible opportunity, that we need to focus on '06. He supports '06 candidates. He gives them money. He e-mails his supporters. He says it over and over and over.
Senator, we get it. Focus on '06.

Do you honestly think there's anyone in this country who would be more thrilled to see that bastard bush* out of office than Senator Kerry? Bush* ran a filthy campaign and lied his way back into the White House at Sen Kerry's and the nation's expense. He gets that. Give the man some credit.

because it's the senate's role to act as JURY after the house impeaches.

We should hang on his every word?

Were you there? Did you hear HOW he said what he said?

If something is taken the wrong way, it is not a flip flop to say "Ya had to be there".

On edit: it's amazing to me how easily we swallow things from the media, as long as it's about someone we weren't inclined to trust in the first place. Many of these media outlets are considered less than reliable... unless their talking about Kerry, of course. Then and only then must what they are saying be true, or put in the proper context etc. "A broken clock is right twice a day" and all that, but only when that broken clock has something to do with Kerry.

As for the phrase "flip flopper," were you saying that BEFORE the Republicans, like during the primaries? Or did you get that exact phrase FROM the Republicans. Think about it.

If things had turned out differently, would you be talking about Howard the Waffler right now instead of Kerry the flip flopper?
