Ford will again advertise in gay publications!!
Wow! AFA gets a slap in the face!!!

Link: http://edition.cnn.com/2005/US/12/14/ford.boycott.ap.ap/

Snip:<WASHINGTON (AP) -- Advertisements featuring Ford Motor Co.'s eight vehicle brands will run in gay publications, the automaker said Wednesday, acting after gay rights groups complained when Jaguar and Land Rover pulled their spots.

Ford is not ordering those luxury brands to resume their specific ads. Rather, the company's ads in the publications will promote all of its lines, which also include Ford, Lincoln, Mazda, Mercury, Volvo and Aston Martin.

Last week, Ford cited a need to reduce its marketing costs in explaining why it no longer would advertise Jaguar and Land Rover in several gay publications.

On Wednesday, Ford wrote the gay rights groups that the luxury brands "made a business decision about their media plans and it would be inconsistent with the way we manage our business to direct them to do otherwise."

Ford pledged to run corporate ads in the publications that will include the entire Ford lineup.

"It is my hope that this will remove any ambiguity about Ford's desire to advertise to all important audiences and put this particular issue to rest," wrote Joe Laymon, Ford's group vice president for corporate human resources.

The gay groups had suggested a connection between the withdrawn Jaguar and Land Rover ads and pressure from conservative groups. Ford denied a connection.>

1. I have a question....
Who's the busybody who discovered the ads in the first place? If it's so horrible to advertise Ford to a gay audience, how did said busybody get wind of it???

Can that person please get a life?!

2. It's AFA
American Family Association. They're nothing more than a hate group that hides behind my religion (Christian) to do their agenda. *sigh* I'm glad Ford stud up to them and gave them a dose of reality. And I agree they need to get a life and leave people a lone. Do something that actually means something. Helping the enviornment to Katrina victims. There's lots to do besides worrying about publications in gay magazines. Gay people drive cars too. Doy.

3. Of the three individuals I've known who have owned Jaguars,
two were gay.

And Coors still struggles to regain the market they lost in the 80's with their actively anti-gay stance.

Business can ill-afford to jump onto, or be seen as promoting the "anti-civil rights" movement. It is dim-witted and self-destructive on its face.

11. I suspected such might be the case.
I responded in a jocular tone as well. I'm also this "jokester" you speak of. A smile instead of a shrug would have better pointed out my intent. I apologize for the omission. :-)

It would be in total keeping with the Right-Wing nutjob's world view if they were to think that a Jaguar would turn you gay if the company advertised it in a gay-oriented publication long enough.

That's difficult to get across in a one-liner. :hi:

I'm so sick of this anti-gay shit I could scream. Not religious at all, but I've taken to reading the bible regularly for a while now so I can get things into context. Jesus says something about marriage, and mentions something about for "for those who marriage is impossible" I guess the common intepretation is he meant eunuchs. Even though that isn't what he said. Made me go hmmm. Think I'll do a little more research.

I believe with all my heart that if Jesus was here today he'd be in front of every gay pride parade and he'd be hanging out at gay weddings turning water into wine. And those self-rightous bastards at the AFA would be plotting to kill him all over again.

10. He surely wouldn't be doing this crap that's for sure
And someone else pointed out in the Bible there were more instructions for straight people than gay people. Jesus never talked about gay people. I think it was Peter or Paul who did. Someone with a "p". And than the Old Testament but as Christian's we don't follow the OT. It's more of a history book as to how things came to be.

12. Yes. The Old Testament: The "hell" Christ came to save us from.
At least that's one way to look at it.

22. It was Paul
Who screwed up a lot of stuff as far as I'm concerned. But then he was busy trying to build a church, laying ground work in his "letters"
I've always wondered about that though, Jesus never mentioned gay people. If it was such a BIG deal, you would think he would of a least mentioned it. From the little I know from just personal reading, I can't believe Jesus would reject gay people. I doesn't fit. He had much bigger metaphysical fish to fry. I know he was an extremely devout spiritual man who believed the best path for people to follow God's path. I don't think he would care about sexual orientation. I think he cared about loving and obeying God, one another, and developing spiritually. I believe he mentioned a time or two that it wasn't an easy path, and it wasn't/isn't, especially for him (I'm not a believer like I said, but this is what I get out of it)
Paul is the also one who said women need to shut up in church and not "wear adornment" among other things. Makes me laugh when I see the fundalmentalist women preachers on TV with their make-up and their nails done, and their gold jewelry.
