Governor,

I am deeply disappointed that you are condoning the murder of a state prisoner. There is little question the man is guilty. But I was hoping that as a European, you would not rush to endorse the death penalty, which has been abolished by most civilized nations. I was wrong.

And you are also wrong, sir.

3. He is very wrong...
I was hoping he would do the morally right thing, but I suppose that morals are subjective rather than objective.

Thank you for writing the letter.

Kicked and recommended.

4. Thanks, Stand and Fight. It is so gross
to be listening to vultures like Rita C. on cable who have NO CLUE what the death penalty does to our culture. I don't care if I get flamed from here to Jupiter.

It ALWAYS COMES HOME. Kill someone at home, allow torture, rendition, WMD on innocent civilians.

Try to avoid the karma. Try.

5. Those who support the death penalty don't see it that way.
They see it as "justice." We see their version of justice as little more than "revenge."

The truth of the matter is that by killing someone -- even if they are a murderer themselves -- means taking away someone else's loved one. Who's to say what this will do to the family members and loved ones of the executed person? It most certainly is not a deterrent to other killings, and I have to wonder if it leads to the creation of yet more killers and criminals. Not to mention the fact that our justice system is far from perfect, and with that being the case I am even more against the death penalty. How many innocents have died because of capital punishment? While this does not apply to Stanley Williams necessarily, it does apply to countless others.

7. This isn't justice. It's bloodlust, plain and simple.
Justice doesn't deal in petty executions because no life can substitute for a life taken. Ever.

This is just like the crowds that used to gather in the dark ages to see a condemned man, drawn and quartered -- alive -- before he was executed.

Merry Christmas to all.

9. I concur.
It is that same form of blood-lust without a doubt. God help us, but it's as if we've traveled back to medieval times. I'm surprised that that pinhead Santorum is not the president. :silly:

12. This is the bitter end of the Cabal's reign.
Before it is over, we will see more of the horrible same.

But, thank you. If I can sleep at all tonight it will be because you and i have issues and Will Pitt and other DUers gave me a reason to hope for the human race.

20. Well, rest in the knowledge that you are not alone.

Rest in the knowledge that there are others out here that find the death penalty a ghastly event that is long overdue to have been done away with. Thank you for having the courage to step forward and speak your mind. It's people with convictions like yours that have seen this country through some of its darkest times. Never be petty. Never give up hope. There is always hope for a better and more sane tomorrow. Good night and be at peace.

Edit: spelling

6. Good luck on this one Sfexpat.
DU is a strange place tonight. It makes me sad. I'm saying a prayer tonight at 12:01 that we as a species, can make the spiritual leap beyond murder, by the state, or by the individual. Sad, sad day.

11. I appreciate your need
to go on the record for this one. I've been a member here for over three years,(despite my low post #), I choose my posts carefully. And I'd like to go on the record as well, I'm really fucking disappointed in (some members) blood lust these past few days. It's really disheartening.

13. I'm glad you're posting tonight. Your posts have really helped me.
In a way, it makes perfect sense for a group that has been oppressed to take on the attributes of their oppressors. But, knowing that only gets you so far.

We can do better than this.

15. Honestly I think DU's growth to 80,000+
Has entirely changed the tone of the discussion. There was a time, back when we were under 30,000 when Don(NNNOLHI)was the king of LBN, I'd really look forward to his posts. There were others. Some whom have passed. Diversity is a good thing, I take it all with a grain of salt, sadly. Time to go find a candle to light, for us, for Stan, for all. The haters and the peacemakers. Namaste

I'm waiting up tonight. Least I can do.

Thank you for being here.

I'm going to meditate and then go to sleep. I hope you know that I'm with you, and everyone else who feels as we do, as a kindred spirit. I have to go now, but just know that you are NOT alone.
