Lemmings marching in lockstep.
Republican voters think of themselves as "rugged individualists." Yet, they would follow their leaders off a cliff if told to do so.

The Dems on the other hand are accused of not being able to get their act together and non-stop in-fighting. This is all true and there's a very good reason for it. We don't march in lockstep and we won't obey anyone's marching orders.

We are each true to our own beliefs, regardless of the consequences. Unfortunately, the consequences are that we do not present a unified face to the electorate.

I happen to believe that, overall, the American public isn't too bright. The simple-minded solutions that the lockstep-marching thugs put in front of them, is appealing.

The conscientious and well reasoned opinions of the Dems differ, require people to make choices and actually think.

I'm not saying we should change our ways. If we do, we become them. However we can, at every opportunity, point out to Republican voters that the "rugged individualism" they think they're practicing is an exercise is self delusion. They are nothing more than hamsters forever running on that spinning wheel.

2. Aren't lemmings little tiny rodents?
Can they even DO lockstep?

I know, I know...metaphor. But the whole picture is funny to me.

8. You're right it's a funny image. The first time I ever heard of lemmings
was in a short story by James Thurber titled "Conversation with a Lemming."

A man walking through the woods meets a lemming and they sit down on a log to have a conversation. After a while the man says, "I don't mean to be insulting, but I've always wondered why, every few years, you lemmings get together and commit suicide by marching into the sea."

"That's interesting," replies the lemming. "I've always wondered why you humans don't."

3. And yet, the Republicans are not in lockstep these days. . .
dissension among the ranks over Iraq, rumblings for replacing Tom Delay, resistance to further tax cuts and anger over the festering scandals . . . all these and more pull the Republicans increasingly apart, and the more we can bring this to light in the political debate the less "destructive" our dissensions will appear. Just some food for thought. . .

5. Yeah. Keep telling yourself that.
Oh, wait. . . you already believe it, despite mounting evidence to the contrary.

6. Liberals have a tendency to be contrary for the sake of being contrary.
At least that's my experience. Many people on the left seem to delight in arguing against widely accepted 'facts'. It's annoying as all hell, but do you know, I think it's better for everyone in the long run. Better to be correct than blissfully ignorant.

You're right- I've found alot more people on the right who were willing- even anxious- to put aside critical though and take orders. It's almost a point of pride.

I can only assume it's because one group is authoritarian, while the other is more egalitarian.
