I am convinced that something is going down with Lieberman & Bushco...
From today:

http://www.kxan.com/Global/story.asp?S=4219579&nav=0s3d

Bush, commanders, brief GOP lawmakers on Iraq

WHITE HOUSE President Bush and his top Iraq commanders have been briefing G-O-P lawmakers on the situation in Iraq.

Republican House leaders went to the White House for a session that included Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, Joint Chiefs Chairman Peter Pace and top generals appearing by video link-up from Iraq.

The lawmakers left the session without speaking to reporters.

The White House says Democrats will be invited for a future session.

Rumsfeld says 'I have no plans to retire'

<snip>

In fact, the Defense Department said Rumsfeld held an early-morning meeting at the Pentagon on Thursday with Lieberman. The senator's views of the Iraq war, in contrast with many other Democrats, have been quoted approvingly in recent speeches by President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and Rumsfeld himself.

Lieberman had an early morning meeting with Rummy, then Rummy goes to the WH in a "secret" session with Bushco... What's going on here?

1. I was wondering myself..
I thikn Leibermann is really worried about losing his job in 2006, so maybe he's auditioning for a Fox news job.

but perhaps SecDef. that way he wouldn't have lost an election.

15. He isn't losing his job.
I live in CT and unfortunately his approval rate is high. And there are no Democrats strong enough or known enough to challenge him. The CT Gov. is a Republican so if he replaces Rummy she gets to fill his spot.

Remember the kiss? I may despise the bastard Rummy but at least he has SOME military experience. What does Lieberman have? Is he only being apart of this because of something with Israel?

Let Lieberman stand proudly on the deck of the USS Bush, just as it's crashing on the rocks. Let them go down together.

9. Lieberman is delusional, if he thinks he won't go down with the
ship, when it goes. He is being used to try and bolster bush. Geez I think I'm feeling some real negative feelings toward lieberman. What a sneaky back stabbing ****stick. Shame on him.

12. Lieberman at Defense? I'm all for it.
First, he can't be any worse than Rummy. And second, it'll take him out of the Senate & open up his seat for a more reasonable facsimile of a Democrat.

17. Randi said yesterday (paraphrasing)
"Call me crazy, but Lieberman is going for the Secretary of Defense job with the Bush administration."
Does she have some insider rumor that she doesn't want to say anything about now?

Lieberman's pro-Israel stance is what makes him back this war in the Middle East and he would triangulate this much to make Israel the dominant power in the Middle East.

She also said that on the positive side, Connecticut could vote in a real Democrat for one of the senators once Lieberman is gone.

21. One of Karl's "best friends"?
Edited on Thu Dec-08-05 02:57 PM by Loge23
I have noticed a couple of right-wing columns recently (sorry, no links - but they are out there) that are touting Lieberman. One suggested that we should be paying more attention to Lieberman and less to Dean.
I'm thinking that if the administration is cozying up to Lieberman, than the PR machine has been duly activated. This, IMO, is a purely political power play. The repugs wish to be seen as friendly to certain non-christian voter segments, while reaching out to include Dems at the same time.
It reminds me of the 'ol racist disclaimer: "Why, some of my best friends are...."

27. I haven't seen much of anything about it so far
apart from the inital news and that was sketchy. A few days ago when Allawi was running from tomatoes and the soles of shoes, his staff/handlers said they spotted a few people in the crowd and knew something was up...that it was an assassination attempt.

Since the Duke of Dirty Deals Chalabi is wanting to top spot, and Bush etal thinks he's in their camp, it wouldn't surprise me to learn Allawi gets blown up by an IED this close to the election. That's not news that Bush etal wants going out over the airwaves till they have all of their stories in line with the exact same talking points.

23. The continuous praising of Lieberman by the bush cabal tells me
they are floating his name to their base in prep for something for sure. I have heard them bring his name into every response in the recent days and they don't do something like that without a hidden agenda greater than simply one dem disagreeing with the majority, imo.

31. They're setting up Joementum to replace Cheney
This is what it'll do for them:

1.Bipartisanize the war.
2.Make Bush look like he's "reaching out" to the other side.
3.The media spin would improve Bushco's poll numbers.
4.Set up Holy Joe as the front runner for the Democratic nomination.
5.As Senator there's a limit to the time he can spend on TV promoting the war - as veep he could be on 24/7.
6.Pick up a Senate seat for the Repubs.
7.In the event of Bushcos impeachment and removal from office a pardon from Lieberman wouldn't be as damaging to the Republican Party.
