Is there something in the holy water? Now this little girl is offended by the thought of feeding hungry kids at Christmastime? WHO WOULD JESUS FEED???

I’m offended by the song “Feed the World – Do They Know it’s Christmas?”
Posted by Rachel Alexander
December 8, 2005 at 7:17 am

I’m listening to a local pop radio station, and hear played several times throughout the day the song “Feed the World – Do They Know it’s Christmas?.” Various British rockers known as Band-Aid wrote and performed it in 1984 to raise money for people starving from famine in Ethiopia. There are 11 instances of the word Christmas, as well as “say a prayer, pray for the other ones” and “thank God it’s them instead of you.” The theme of the song is to let people in less fortunate countries know that it’s Christmastime.

Why is this song repeatedly played on secular radio stations advocating the promotion of Christmas overseas when currently within our country mentioning Christmas in public is discouraged? Under pressure from a minority of people who claim to be offended, department stores and schools are gradually eliminating any mention of Christmas including Christmas songs.

Curiously, I hear more references to Christmas during the day on the radio station than I encounter in shopping malls over the entire Christmas season. Children listening to the radio likewise hear more references to Christmas listening to the radio than they would in school simply singing a few Christmas songs. The FCC regulates the content of radio. Where is the outrage of atheists and the ACLU against rock stars promoting the Christian religion on radio? Since the government regulates the radio waves, Feed the World is a violation of the separation of church and state, isn’t it?

Below is the list of offenders who performed Feed the World – Do They Know it’s Christmas? which I’ve handily provided for the ACLU atheists who haven’t yet figured out they have been offended, so they can file a complaint with the FCC. And don’t forget about the compilations of Christmas music performed by rock stars, even if the albums are not played on the radio, shouldn’t they at least be required by the government to have warning labels on them advising children of Christian lyrics? So far, radio has been relatively left alone by the “tyranny of the minority.” But it’s clear that any content relating to Christianity will be targeted should the government start passing laws. Under the Fairness Doctrine, from 1927 – 1980 only one radio station has ever lost its license – a small Christian radio station in Pennsylvania.

group pressuring corporations to drop any mention of Xmas during the holiday season. Rather, I believe it was the heads of corpaorations who took the lead to call it the holiday season. They only want everyone to shop at their stores and took the tack to include all.

"The theme of the song is to let people in less fortunate countries know that it’s Christmastime"

No sugar, it isn't. Because it's that time of year, let me, in the spirit of the season, 'splain it for you: People who are well off are supposed to hear the song and remember that some people's lives don't revolve around an orgasm of buying stuff because they don't even have money to buy food. Then, well off people will feel bad and donate food, money, and maybe even time to help people less fortunate than them--you know, like your pal jesus did.
Do they know it's christmastime? No, they don't because they're too busy trying to forget the sound of their stomachs eating themselves.

Get it now, my thick headed, innocent, outraged little friend? Happy Holidays to you Rachel. I hope you get that brain you always wanted this year.

the line "let them know it's christmas time" is NOT to promote christianity. it's to remind christians that the christian thing to do (all year round & not just at christmas btw) is that we are commanded to take care of the less fortunate, in this case, the starving people of ethiopia. so if you say you're christian, then dammit, feed these people (thru donations which bought food)!! the line "thank God it's them instead of you" is more to make you thankful you are not starving & would want someone to help you out if you were.

and don't get me started on teaching this kid about the difference between "private" and "public" in the first amendment arena.

why does this kid hate jesus?

28. Stupid -
"I’ve handily provided for the ACLU atheists who haven’t yet figured out they have been offended, so they can file a complaint with the FCC."

This is the bottom line: I personally haven't heard anyone actually say "I'm offended by Christmas." I've only heard RW pundits make the claim that "some people" or "liberals" are offended by Christmas. Who exactly? Give me names! Has John Kerry said that "Merry Christmas" offends him? Not that I've heard. Has Teddy Kennedy said it? Not that I've heard.

I've only heard that Bill O'Reilly claims "some" are offended but he never names names or gives quotes. And, this writer is saying "You're offended and don't yet know it, so I'm telling you that you are."

How stupid is this going to get?

35. OMG - check out this response!!
Just in my opinion, the reason Feed the World - Do They Know It's Christmas is given a pass by the ACLU and the atheists is because it is really a slap at Christianity and we "decadent" Americans.

I think the way they see it is we are so caught up in Christmas and the religious over-tones and the commercial aspect that we "low lifes" are too blind to see that there are children starving around the world and that they don't know it's Christmas because they only know their own hunger and pain. Thus, we (Christians) are uncaring, insensitive and greedy.

They use Christ as a "socialist figure" that would never tolerate the injustice of America being a land of plenty...we would all share our wealth and live in a World Community. They love to use anything, especially our Christmas music, to make us look like hypocrits to the rest of the world. However, by the looks of the list of artist participating in that song...they are the hypocrits. Each and every one of them lives in a huge home with all the creature comforts that their money can buy! They only want to make the music so that it can sell and then they'll donate that money to the charities of the UN and it soothes their troubled souls. I bet Sting spent more on his wedding in the Irish Castle than he gave to Feed The World! :rolleyes2:

Just my :twocents: .

Oh...and let us not forget to remember that great socialist, John Lennon, today on the anniversary of his death! Whatever! :p

If Rush/O'Reilly said it was snowing in July would they wear their coats, gloves, hats, and boots while pointing at us in our bikinis and claiming we don't know winter from summer?

 at me in a bikini no matter what month it is.

37. To Rachel Alexander, you are an asshole
The song is not about religion, you choad. It's about the fact that, in the season of "Peace on Earth, Goodwill towards men" and "it's better to give than to receive," there are millions of people who go to bed hungry every night.

The song is asking people to give and Feed the World, shaming people into realizing that it's the Christmas season. That's the point. They aren't spouting religion like Roy Moore did with his 10 commandments granite idol. . .it's says "this is Christmas, so why are people still starving?"

John Lennon did the same thing, you choad! Learn to have a logical argument before you open your stupid, dumbass mouth with something so morAnic that it kills the brain cells of the reader.
