Last Minute Campaign Effort - DU'ers Step up!
PDA members and chapters in Orange County are working hard this evening. They have organized 110 Get Out the Vote canvassers walking over 65 precincts from the Teamster’s hall in the district in an all out effort to turn out the vote.

Steve Young is a true peace and justice candidate running in a very red district behind the Orange Curtain. We have an opportunity to win this seat! The right wing voters in the district are being split by a neoconservative and an ultra rightwing anti-immigrant AIP third party candidate. Simply put, if Democrats show up to vote, we can add another seat in the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

Join the Virtual Phone Bank NOW. Your computer and a phone is all that you need. Just send an e-mail to [email protected], and in the subject put "Virtual Phone Bank." In the body of your message tell how many blocks of calls you would like to make. One block represents 50 phone numbers. Doug will send you back a log-in and password
for each block you request, as well as instruction for calling and downloading a phone script.

2. And Why Am I Just Hearing About This Now? This Should've Had the Same
Vigor as those redundantly annoying Save the Murderer Threads.

Seriously, Have I missed this the past few days? Stuff like this is 100% priority IMHO, and I'm frustrated I couldn't have provided far more support earlier...

6. Please give us an update, and a time-frame on this!
Are donations still needed? Sent where?

For those who can make phone calls: What day is the election? Today? When do polls close? Are phone calls still needed?

For those in the district: What else is needed?

7. P.S. What kind of voting system does Orange County have?
I knew a few months ago, but can't remember now. I do remember that it was not good, and that Orange County was one of the CA Republican counties where I suspected that Kerry votes were shaved off (to bolster Bush's popular majority). What kind of monitoring has the campaign done of the voting system and its tabulation? What kind of audit/recount controls are there? What is your plan if you suspect the vote was fiddled? Do you have a knowledgeable computer person on staff? What is the state of knowledge of the campaign about electronic voting?

As for election day: Are voters being illegally deprived of a real paper ballot (not a provisional ballot) as an option? Are election monitors at the central facility being permitted to view vote tabulation screens? Are any non-official personnel (say, from the voting system company) being permitted to roam around, with access to computers and voting data? Any breakdowns, or lockdowns (exclusion of the public)? What is the status of security between precincts and election central?

Are you familiar with this pamphlet on the perils of electronic voting, "MythBreakers": www.votersunite.org

and this project for statistical monitoring of elections: www.UScountvotes.org?
