Stripes: (67 y.o.) Prisoner dies at U.S. military facility in Iraq

BAGHDAD — A 67-year-old prisoner died at a U.S. military facility on Friday morning, U.S. officials said Saturday. The man was “pronounced dead by the attending physician at the 344th Corps Support Hospital at 7:30 a.m.,” according to a military release.

No cause of death was given. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death, and then the remains will be given to the man’s family.

In some previous instances of detainee deaths, a cause of death — usually cited as natural causes — has been released before completion of the autopsy.

The 344th is deployed from Fort Totten, N.Y. The unit, includes 320 men and women who serve as doctors, nurses, EMTs and administrative personnel.
